Seamless track change???

At times you will be listening to a song and hear the end of one song melt into the next. The thing you don't hear is the one track switching to the next. It's just a matter of the track number on your player display going from 7 to 8.

Can anyone help me accomplish this? As of right now I run Adobe Audition (formerly Cool Edit Pro) PC based software. And I have a track where the opening of the song is like a 1:30 and it sounds nothing like the rest of the song, but it's fluid and melts into the beginning of the actual song.

I can just see it now. Someone will have heard the song a number of times and become impatient because they have to jog forward to get to the "meat and potatoes" of the track. I think it would be more convenient for the listener to hit the next button if need be.

I want to treat it like a prelude to a song but have a seamless track change. The first 1:30 just flows into what would be the actual song.
How can I accomplish this??

Thanks, Jason

Usually, your CD-burning program-of-choice has an option for "time between tracks" or something similar... by default, it's usually two seconds... set the time between the intro and the 'meat and potatoes' of the song to 0 seconds.

not sure if this will help in your situation, but that operation is referred to as a "crossfade".

I've done this with Cool Edit before. Here's what I do:

1: Mix down both parts of the song, so that it is one long track.

2: Go into the wav editor part of Audition, and highlight from the beginning of the track until the point where you want the tracks on the CD player to change (the start of the "real" song).

3: Under File, click on Save Selection As

4: Delete the highlighted portion of the track. This will leave only the "real" song, without the intro.

5: Under File click on Save As

Now you have two seperate tracks that when played one after another will sound like the song never stopped. But, make sure that your burning software has the option turned off that puts 2 second breaks between songs (I hate that option) or else it won't flow.

The way I do it is to take all of the songs that I want "joined" and join them with crossfades in Cubase SX. I believe CEP has this function, not sure. Then I cut songs at the cross fades with CEP by typing in the start and end times for a selected area and saving selected as a single track. The end of track one will be the exact time as the begining of the next. I then burn the CD with NERO setting the time interval between tracks to zero. I do the same thing with live performances without the crossfades. This allows the listener to either listen to the whole performance as a single entity or they can "tab" to a specific song if they like.

I've been thinking about doing this so that each verse and chorus of one song would be its own track. Then if I did this for a whole CD it would be like 57 tracks or something, and then you could just fast forward to whichever verse you felt like hearing at the time. Doubt I'll ever do it though.

I think I am going to make a cd with only 1 track and thats it so people will be forced to listen to all the songs instead of just zapping around.
