Equipment to record a live show

Baisically, I have been interested in bootlegs for a while now and want to start making my own. I have pretty much n idea what stuff is good to have to do this. Really im looking for md range things, not too expensive. I need things to actually get the show recorded right down to converting it to flac or shn or burning to cd, so software is also needed. If it helps I have a mid-high spec pc and want to record shows that will probably be for around 500 people or less. Usually loud. Much Appreciated.

I knew a guy who, when bootleggin' one of our sets, used a md, and one of those 'lil plug and play sterio mics held on a boom, and once he found the right spot for the mic, it sounded pretty good. We ended-up taking it back to the hotel room, burned it onto a disk with a Roland CDX-1, finalized, and duped it, and then gave a bunch away to nice people we met at the show... all within an hour of it ending. It made them feel appreciated, which they were, and made us feel pretty cool, which... ah well, hmmm...

Ya, Gotta agree with Hue. Mini Disk is the easiest and will provide fine recordings. A step up from the stereo mic would be a couple of large diaphram mics, if you can place them without hastle. You will need a small mixer, I suggest Behringer with phantom power. Any simple recording software with a two channel sound card will work well for playing the mini disk into the software. You can even get by with one microphone stand if you use a stacked coincedental array configuration for the mics. You will have to make a jig for mounting the mics. Good stereo reproduction. Practally zero phase problems.

Mini disk, with the 'lil sterio plug'n play mic...

no wires, no stands, but if you've got it in your pocket, you'll most likely get some "pocket-noize" .
OR

You could pocket the recorder, and (theoretically) plug a pair of those tiny headphones into the mic-jack, then run those down your sleeves and hold your hands into a "Y" for the show. The 'lil phones, may have the right impedance to act like mics in a loud setting, and the band will think you're praying for them ! lol

I'm not sure this would work, but now I wan'na try ! lol
