May 25, 2004 10:31 pm actually, if you just want to lose a little bit, maybe just run every night.

May 25, 2004 10:39 pm If you drink regular pop, switch to diet. I've heard that that alone can cause a 10-15 lb weight loss if you don't cheat. Also, drink a lot of water before meals, it makes you feel fuller and you won't want to eat as much.

May 25, 2004 11:01 pm Best I know is the "Zone" eating methodology. It is not however a "loose weight" diet. It is an intelligent way to eat. It has the side effect of maintaining a very healthy and lean body fat percentage. Loose weight? Yea jump arnound, run around, watch scarry movies, drink a lot of water, stick to limited amounts of slow matabolizing foods. Eat often, not much. Body sculpturing? Get a personal trainer who understands genitics and what can be done with what you got. Drastic changes? Silicone and vacume hoses!

May 26, 2004 02:28 am My cousin works out at a mixed martial art gym (think UFC), and one of the guys there, who just happens to be a title holder (light heavyweight I think - Randy Couture) told him that he would lose 20lbs in a month if he just cut dairy from his diet and kept working out. Though the claims seem to be exaggerated he has lost a bunch of weight in 5 months (don't know exactly how much). My sister has since joined in and lost 6-8 lbs in 3 weeks but she runs 2-4 miles 2 or 3 times a week. Plus especially for females you should think about osteoporosis before giving up dairy in my non-medical opinion. So, maybe try giving up dairy and do some cardio.
May 26, 2004 04:45 am Argh, I did Atkins, it got me quite ill over the winter. I have recently lost quite a few pounds. I lift wieghts some nights and do the treadmill the nights in between. Seems to have worked well.

May 26, 2004 06:57 am Me too, Atkins had me feeling very sick that I had to get off of it. But I've been on Diet drinks since January and haven't cheated! I guess I've lost weight due to it, can't tell to be honest.
May 26, 2004 07:01 am My illness, which almost landed me in the hospital over the winter, I can't completely attribute to Atkins, but the timing was odd to say the least.
I still drink normal soda, I HATE diet soda with a passion...yucky, I just try to drink less of it, and I try to work out on a regular basis, though since spring rolled around it's been hard to get on the ol' treadmill, as I'd rather be outside.
I did however get in a few minutes of weight lifting this morning before heading to the bus.
COntrary to popular opinion, you don't need to work out for an hour or two a day every day for the rest of your life. A decent 30-minute (hell even 15-minute) session with weights every couple days is enough to work your muscles and keep you loose. Surely not gonna make you into Vin Diesel, but then, thats the difference between "getting in shape" and "body building"

May 26, 2004 07:53 am That Atkins stuff is unnatural. I know some folks - a LOT of folks - are using it and getting results, but the human body just isn't meant to live like that. You're supposed to eat carbs too! Man cannot live on meat and eggs alone... I can't really say this is a topic I'm "passionate" about, seeing as how I don't really care what anybody else eats, but man... there are long-term repercussions to cramming your body with that kind of food all the time.

May 26, 2004 08:35 am My best friends wife is a nutritionist and she says that if you don't eat carbs (ala the atkins diet or south beach diet) you become dumber than you already are. The brain needs carbohydrates to help your brain's neurons fire off at a normal rate. If you stop eating carbs or even severely limit your intake, you can become forgettful, slow-minded, and you head will shrivel up like a raisen. ok I made that last one up, but you get the picture.
my advice that I've found to work is 1. Only eat until you're not hungary (don't get full) 2. Get off your butt and move. Any movement is good movement. 3. Soda pop, even diet, is evil. If you cut out soda for two weeks you'll lose a few pounds guaranteed.
May 26, 2004 08:39 am I stopped drinking soda for about 6 months once, dunno why I started again, but in the first two weeks alone I dropped over 15 lbs.

May 26, 2004 08:45 am Try cigarettes and amphetimenes, you'll lose weight in no time flat. Never mind the leathery skin, yellowing or missing teeth, or the sleep-deprivation hallucinations. You'll be surprised at how much weight you can lose simply by not sleeping or eating for 3 weeks.
Or, if you're really into it, you can start cooking your own meth. If you're lucky, you can blow one (or both) of your hands off. Heck, that's gotta be 2 or 3 pounds right there!
May 26, 2004 08:51 am Good, sound advice there Tadpui.
May 26, 2004 08:59 am I smoke and hallucinate enough that it probably wont help in my fight against weight loss. Atkins would probably be bad because im a vegitarian. I dont drink regular pop.. or diet. Im afraid to take pills and such. what are "slow matabolizing" fooods?
thanks guys for all your help.
I just want to look really good this summer.

May 26, 2004 10:34 am Wow, other than the smoking, it sounds like you take pretty good care of yourself already. My only recommendation would be regular aerobic exercise, like 1/2 hour 3 times or more per week. Ride a bike, take a jog, play some tennis or raquetball or something.
10 or 15 pounds is a pretty lofty goal. Take off that first 5, then set your sights on the second 5. Losing weight is difficult, and its easy to get discouraged. Take it 1 step at a time.
Good luck!

May 26, 2004 10:55 am I did atkins and lost about 30 pounds in 2 months. I ate plenty of carbs too... there's just a 'intro period' called induction period that you really limit your carbs, which sucked but was worth it.
of course now with my wife pregnant and me with no time to prepare meals, i eat whatever she does and almost gained it all back.
dB... ever tried DietRite soda? it's the only soda i drink. it is made by RC Cola and actually tastes good. it uses Splenda to sweeten it so no sugar spikes. no carbs, calories, or caffeine.

May 26, 2004 11:05 am synthia,
I don't know much about the vegitarian lifestyle, but there's a thing called the glycemic index which is a ranking of carbohydrates based on their immediate effect on blood glucose (blood sugar) levels. It compares foods gram for gram of carbohydrate. Carbohydrates that breakdown quickly during digestion have the highest glycemic indexes. The blood glucose response is fast and high. Carbohydrates that breakdown slowly, releasing glucose gradually into the blood stream, have low glycemic indexes. (www.glycemicindex.com)
So eat low on the index, eat a little more protein (from things you can eat, like tofu maybe?) combined with working out and you should be good to go!

May 26, 2004 02:12 pm the best way to lose weight is to get yourself 20 - 60 pounds of metal and hang it off your shoulders, then run dead into a few more people, also wearing the metal, swinging as hard as you can (but still controlled) at them until you either beat the pounds off them, or they beat the pounds off you. After a few hours when your body tells you it hates you, take a break and eat something nutritious, and then get right back there and do it all again. Practice this technique at least 3 times a week and I garentee results. After 3 weeks you may chose to lose the metal.
This is what I do in my spare time
May 26, 2004 03:07 pm Loki, you sound like a mosher. I second Loki's advice, but would like to add that blaringly loud music can add to the effect. As long as you don't get any permanent scars, you'll be looking ab-fab in no time! But engaged heabanging also works. It's quite aerobic, especially with speed metal. Honestly, though, running really works. I know many people, myself included, who drop have dropped serious pounds in weeks just by running, and eating moderately. But really, one thing I don't understand about the whole diet thing is that everyone is trying to find a way to look awsome without putting any effort into it. It doesn't make sense to me. If you want to look like Cindy Crwaford, you're just gonna have to work good and hard for it. I don't think that's gonna change, no matter what some dietician tells you.
May 26, 2004 03:10 pm Yes, I have grown VERY TIRED of the "now you can loose weight without diet and excercise" comercials on television and the radio. I dunno about anyone else, but if it's a contest between being skinny and being healthy, I'll take healthy first. Just because you've dropped weight doesn't automatically make you healthy...

May 26, 2004 03:42 pm If you live near to either the north or south poles you can loose about a half pound by moving closer to the equater. More thrust trying to toss you off the planet!

May 29, 2004 02:24 am Best diet in the world, eat all you want, whatever you want. But dont eat past 5:00 ever.......it works!!!!!!Face it, its only the hours you dont work off the fooood that matters. I eat 2 big lunches, and that is maybe not good. But no bigarse sammich-burritos-nacho-lowfat-giant-sloppy burgers-egg burrito-double-double-macho combo-carne asada...... and diet coke- at night.... Adkins works, but everyone quits it, including me. Plus its real bad on the heart if you do it for a long while.. Meat and cheese is great, until thats ALL you can eat. Then its as bad as a rice cake diet. Your body can get used to being hungry at night, and can get used to ignoring it. I will be in my string bikini by July, and have no worries.......har....har
Dont know if the bikini straps I have go with my clown nose....... hmmmmmmmmm....
