For something like an acoustic guitar you would be far better off with the condensors. The 57's will do the job just fine, and will work well on many other miking tasks, but the AKG's will pick up much more of something as dynamic as an acoustic guitar.

I just did a 6 and a 12 string last night with two MK012's through a Behringer tube pre and I nearly fainted. My wife got extreamly jelous. The Oktava's are extreamly hard to find lately so I will cast the vote for the AKG's as well.

I have a C3000 and I love that mic. If the 1000 is half the mic the 3000 is it will be a nice mic for you.

The c-1000's have been called the "swiss army knife" of small diaphragm condensers. I have to say, they do totally rock on instruments. Ive never tried them on voice, but many peoiple say they are great for that in the studio, AND live! The 57s are better for jet engine volumes, and are not real good at picking up nuances on lower volume anythings... the 57 is , however, a real neccesity for every studio. For acoustic guitars, even when using a good pre, you have to have the capsule half to quarter inch away from the strings, just to get enough gain.
Thats a little confining to me

I have the AKG 2000's. After recording for a while with dynamic's the difference was really quite amazing. It's a HUGE difference. Try to believe.

I would recommend the MXL 603's. They are cheaper than the C1000 and I think they do a better job. Thye are similar to the MK012.

hmmm.... Some of the MXL line I have been very impressed with, but I seriously doubt the model you "tout about" would come close to rivaling the C-1000!!!!! (echo echo echo)......

I am using my Oktava mk012 nowadays, and I totally love it... my acoustic guitar tracks have never sounded better. I see that Musician's Friend no longer carries them, though... you may be able to pick up one or two on an auction site.
