May 05, 2004 11:00 am Doesn't surprise me in the least!
May 05, 2004 11:02 am yeah, stunning...
May 05, 2004 11:06 am "...many artists were not being paid royalties because record companies lost contact with the performers and had stopped making required payments."
They couldn't get in touch with Dolly Parton or Gloria Estefan to pay them? I know they didn't actually say that, but geez, they implied it in the article.
May 05, 2004 11:10 am Be aware there are only a few big names in that list, of course, only one makes them look stupid, but the majority are long lost one hit wonder bands...
A guy that used to work at our Help Desk was in "Slave Raider" a band that hit it big (sorta) for a brief time and one or two songs are still played now and then. He used to chuckle, as every once in a while a check for 60 cents would come to his mailbox :-)
Heck, Gloria Estefan was on American Idol a couple of weeks ago, they coulda just met her there.

May 05, 2004 12:59 pm never heard of, but simon can be quite funny/cruel
May 05, 2004 01:08 pm I watched the show one season, never missed it. I wanted to understand the fuss and hype. The thing that amazed me was that here's this AMERICAN IDOL contest (you know, youth, young people, young bodies, rising stars, etc) and these kids are singing a bunch of oldies?
May 05, 2004 01:11 pm I first few episodes are great, with all the sucky people, but once they get down to under 100 people they are all fairly decent, so it's not funny anymore.
I just like looking at Paula.

May 05, 2004 01:45 pm Ya the sheen family has good taste (most of the time)
May 05, 2004 01:56 pm And did anyone see the little American Idol Documentary two years ago? They showed every goofball and horribly bad singer they could scrape up. Now that was really interesting! Made me feel like I was not alone...

May 05, 2004 02:49 pm Well here's a story for ya. When I was going to school we had a guest speaker who was big time into The boss and he did a cover of one of his songs. Well lo and behold he got a letter from the bosses label saying you owe us money so we want to know how many cd's were sold.....at the end of this whole fiasco it ended up being like $14 or something like that. The guy that put out the cd was happy that the boss's management/label had contacted him and gladly wrote the check to them (thinking he would get his signature on the back when it came back to him....guess what? he never received the check and it was cashed!)
