Just uploaded a new song...

It's in my profile, called "Now". Once again, I lean on presley for his vocal magic and my friend and former bandmate Art Keith for his bluesy leads.

Just a quick mix, playing with some simple synth fills...hardly a finished mix, but I'd be curious of your thoughts...

Really good song dB. I hear influences from (goin way back here <G>) The Seeds, along with Grateful Dead, and Hendrix. The song has that raw early 70's sound to me. Presley's vocals are great (man that guy can sing!) but sound just a bit too low in the mix to me and the lead guitar could use a little more oomph. The higher parts of the lead sound like a DI'd guitar and lack that punchy blues sound. The rest of the mix sounds really good has the perfect balance for the type of song IMO.

I really like this alot, right up my alley. :)

Thanks OD, I appreciate the comments. Yes, the guitar is a DI and a miked mix (from the one and only session that me eBay'd MK319 worked). I need to fatten it up a bit...

Ya, presley is somethin else, man...and what's cool is he does it really fast too...at 16 that kid has promise...

I'll keep workin on the mix, thanks much for listening.

Hey Guys, thanks much for the props, glad to hear people like it.

forty, no, I don't enable the download of my tunes...but maybe I should, I am very flattered anyone wants to :-)

presley, yeah, I did a bit of work on it since you did the vox. I just uploaded a new mix of it just now where you vox stand out a bit more. you didn't compress but I compressed the hell out of 'em. Oh, and 16 or 17, your still a young pup :-) hehehe, but a talented one.

I am hoping to finish a little 5-song EP here shortly just so I can say I accomplished something in this darn studio with MY OWN music as opposed to helping everybody else out with their stuff...one drawback tho, doing my own stuff doesn't pay as well...or, at all really, and after making the CD's it'll actually wind up having COSTED me...just ain't right!

Great start here dB. It looks like you've enlisted the help of some very competent musicians!

My only suggestion would be to maybe nix one or two of the short guitar solos, but only so that the more significant solos have more impact.

It's a rare (but nice) opportunity to hear something new from you, hope you can find more time soon to enjoy using your "rack of death (tm)" setup! :)

presley...songs played through the HRC flash player show up as temp files? what do you do then, just rename them with .mp3?

I am looking into new ways to stream these files to cut out the flash player and possibly add a hi-band/lo-band playback for each one. Yes forty, anything streamed is saved to your PC somewhere, though if somebody does not enable downloading, I would like to think other musicians would honor that request...save maybe the musician's that actually helped in the making of it ;-)

Thanks for the comments Tadpui. Yeah, working with those solos is trying for me. I like it all and hate being put in the position to decide what gets cut and what stays. I plan on doing some editing before the "EP" actually gets done and some will probably go, however I also have the gut feeling this is kind of a "guitar rock" song and all the leads kinda fit as such...plus, I love Art's work...I dunno, I'm torn...

Cool, man! Good one. That guitar lead tone is killer - very appropriate for the song, I think. Nice vocal harmony, hey good vocals and intruments all around.

Raw early 70s sound - yeah, that's a good description. Unapologetic, dirty, rockin' rock. You go, guys.

"Hey man, is that Freedom Rock??? Well turn it up, man!" (ok you non-US guys might not get that reference... sorry - it's an old commercial on tv every now and then)

And I got it ;)

My music tends to get that kind of description a lot, or something close to that...which is good, since that era is most of my influence :)

yeah, presely usually takes my music in a direction I don't intend or hadn't invisioned, but I always like it.

** The guitar sound
And for those that liked the guitar sound, he uses a Tele with a little single 12 vox amp. I miked it with an SM57 right on the cab and an Oktava MK319 back about 3 feet and up about a foot against a brick wall with sound panels on either side. I also ran a DI from the amp but don't use it any more. I doubled the miked sound and EQ'd one side emphasizing the 2.5k range and cutting the bottom and one side boosting the bottom and panned them about 20 degrees opposite directions from center...

heh, that's not really my style of music, but the sound quality is pretty good. I like the layering of vocals especially at the end of verses when they are doubled and then get reduced to single layers. good job.

Yup, I like that one as well. Its gettin to be rock time. I come from Walts Jazz piece and then turn this up, hell ya he says.

Presley , indeed a wonderfull vocal part. and the bluesy ballsy guitar solos rock.

Im with coolo on the vocal treats as well, it really adds to the tune.

Rock is and will always be Rock. Pure raw rock at that.
