I just posted about getting Har Bal when I get my tax return in about a week.
I'm also buying a M-Audio Audiophile card (is it 2496?), and a pair of Beringher truth reference studio monitors to replace my SB Live 128 and a set of computer speakers.
Is it fair of me to expect just that upgrade alone to make an improvement in my recordings?

Feb 26, 2004 09:43 am The 2496 card is great, and I definitely noticed a difference when I upgraded from my Soundblaster-clone card. Less background noise/hiss was the main thing that I perceived as the major difference in the upgrade. I think you'll be very happy with it.

Feb 26, 2004 09:44 am That is going to make a huge difference in quality.
Audiophile = Better performance and recording quality/playback than the soundblaster.
Truth monitors = Better detail and stereo image than your computer speakers.
You also have to look at your mic, mic preamp and probably a compressor in case you don't own some yet.
Good luck!!

Feb 26, 2004 09:45 am Thanks guys, that's what I wanted to hear! :-)
I'm sitting good on mics, pre amps, etc. I'm actually very happy with the quality I've gotten lately. It just seems like there are always some things I could do to make it just a little better.

Feb 26, 2004 09:46 am oh, also the 2496 accepts a s/pdif input, so if you can go digital from your recorder, that's a whole other step of signal degradation you're losing.
