so i'm in this band the blue scene, we're 5 people. i play keyboards, we have 2 guitars, a bassist, and a drummer. our bassist sings. anyway we just got a new member who is going to be doing extra percussion/vocals/laptop/ and acoustic guitar when necessary. i just bought a roland kc-500 off ebay with this guy to input all our stuff. basically i think what he's going to do is get a small mixer, put a couple of mic's through it for his percussion and vocals, put one set of outputs as inputs into his laptop, output that as one channel in the roland. then another set of outputs from the mixer can go straight to the roland. that way he can quickly choose between a dry and wet signal for whatever he's doing. oh we stumbled across this thing at guitar center the other day, it's what radiohead uses when they play "everything in its right place" live. we might get that as well, because we want the guy to do the bulk of his work live.

check it out it's amazing.

the roland is cool because it has a xlr out, so not only would we have the amp as a monitor but we could just have the sound guy put it through the PA.

anyway, we thought maybe one of those behringer euroracks would be good for that since they are small, cheap, reliable, and affordable? what do you think? the kc-500 is amazing by the way, my keyboards sound 100 times better.

haha, i split the cost with the new guy in the band. anyway, i've been trying to draw a good schematic layout of how we're going to set it up. tell me if this sounds good. we will have 2 mic's one for vox and one for percussion. the vox mic will go through the kaoss pad, then to the mixer. the other mic will go direct. the laptop will have a 2in/2out sound card, so we will put the aux sends into one input, and back into the mixer through one of the outputs... so we can add all kinds of effects. then the 2nd output of the laptop will just go direct into the mixer (for samples etc). the main outs from the mixer go to the amp. that way we can use the aux sends if we want effects, use the kaoss pad on the vox mic, etc. does that sound sensible?

are you trying to do realtime effects processing with the laptop? this could could make a real mess unless you get the latency really low (like < 20ms)

yeah, we ordered a sound card that has super low latency, so i think we should be alright.

it's an echo indigo, if it doesn't work out, we might just get an outbard effects processor, and just use the laptop as a sampler.

I know several peeps using both Echo and M-Audio and having great results live with both laptops and full on PC's.
