Hello! I just recording my first couple verses. and I would like to know how I can remove bass from my vocals. I'm using Adobe Audition (formerly cool edit pro) and would appreciate any help. I'm using it to rap and I'm about 6-8 inches away from my mic when i'm spitting on it. So yeah . . should I be more far? or something? mic settings maybe? your reply will be greatly appreicated!
Thanks!!

If you can I would use a highpass filter with a cutoff centered around 100Hz, and move the cutoff around until you get the desired effect

Feb 05, 2004 10:00 pm What mic are you using? If it has a bass roll off use that. Or do as Jamie said if ya dont have that on the mic.

Feb 05, 2004 11:31 pm At six to eight inches away from the mic you should not be suffering from proximity effect, however you could try moving a little further back. Excentuated bass in vocals often comes from bending the diaphram of mic from both sides; an effect called proximity. Trained vocalists use this effect to their advantage knowing how to move the mic closer and further from their mouth to control the bass content.

Feb 06, 2004 02:19 am yeah, use either the parametric eq or graphic eq under filters in the effects list and do as Jamie said. This will help you remove bass from vocals.
