saving custom kits in fruityloops

ive made a drumkit of my own, made up of a load of samples in fruity, which i want to save so that i can use the same set for various projects...like the preset kits that come with it, but one of my own.

so, i went into the drum kits folder, made a new folder for my it, and saved the file back into that folder, so that it showed up as a kit in its own right in the browser....which it does fine.

however, when i open my kit, all the channels and different sounds display how they should, but there seems to be no samples attached to them, and the boxes that tell ya the name of the channels (ie, what instrument they relate to) are bright red.

im guessing that ive saved the actual samples (the ones that make up the kit) in the wrong places...correct? which folder in the fruity directory should i save them into to make this work. ive had a look through the manula, and through the directory itself to try and figure it out, but ive got nowhere...help!

bet jamie or db'll know this one...

oh, found it now...that was a waste of a post! for anyone whos interested, just create a file in 'drumkits' and drag your samples in there - bingo!

it confused me that for all the preset kits, there werent any samples...

sorted!

sorry i'm late. i never bothered to do it that way. i just made blank flp files which have only my custom drum kit samples loaded into fruity sampler generators.

I usually just use the default kits...

jeez, you aren't even getting 1/10th of the coolness of Fruity that way..., on the upside, even 1/10th of fruity is better than 100% of some of the other sequencers...

Yeah I don't really know my way around fruity too well. I make simplistic drum loops and stuff but I don't think I'd be able to do anything cool with it, simply because I haven't spent that much time on it really. I know what it's capable of, I just don't know how to go about getting what I want from it. If I had more time I would sit down and learn what everything does, but for now I'll just use the basic kits and make basic loops for mediocre music. heh

but flame, so you have two folders now? u have the samples stored in a folder within the 'drum kits' directory folder with the name of your kit but you also have a folder with the name of your kit in 'drum kits' that just has the kit setup?

or have you saved both the samples and the kit setup info itself in one file within 'drum kits'???

i hope that makes sense. i now own fruity...and LOVE it. but i've already polluted some folders by not knowing quite how to organize them.

i keep all my samples, VSTs, song files, etc, outside of the fruity folders

where should i save:

1. fruity files (i guess this would be any data i've entered...patterns i've created)

2. drum samples

3. drum kits (the data, i guess, that tells fruity what samples are in a kit)

i keep all my sample organized by either type (kick, snare, pad, etc) or by where they came from, such as which sample CD i found them on.

as for song projects, i try and keep everything in a folder. i'll keep the flp file, any unique samples i used, VST preset files, midi files, wavelab mrk files, cakewalk bun files wav tracks, *everything* for that song in one folder.

but what about drum kit files? i think that's just a small data file for fruity to use so that it can know what samples to use for a kit. should i put those in a special 'drum kits' folder?
