Hey HRC gang... it's been awhile. If I don't post on here alot, I sure read everyday. This is my favorite site! Anyway, I have what is probably a ridiculous question...here goes... I had a friend tell me once that if you put CD's(blanks)near speakers, that it somehow screws the CD's up...because of magnetism. Is there any truth at all in that? I personally don't believe it myself. What do you guys have to say? Thanks

It's BS. I always have my CD's right next to, if not ON TOP OF speakers.

tapes like cassettes and VHS are magnetic. floppy disks and hard drives too. the store data by arranging the ferrous molecules of the tape or film in certain directions.

but CDs are optical. the heat of a laser light darkens little dots an dashes above an aluminum reflector. go laugh at your friend now :OD

*do* try and avoid exposing your CDRs to bright light and extreme heat as this *will* shorten the life of the data stored on them. find dark cool place to keep your archives

Thanks Jamie, I always put the CDRs in a dark, cool place. You should see my room...people say it's like a dungeon. Dark and cold!
