Anybody know anything about AIFF format files? I want to try to import an AIFF file (which came from a studio) into SONAR, but SONAR tells me it cant read the file. Also, I can't play the file with Media Player, although Media Player recognizes the extension. The file came from the studio on a CD, which is formatted to be readable on a PC. I don't know what kind of computer it was written-on (might have been an Alesis MasterLink). Any special tricks to get this to play on a PC & import to SONAR?

Aug 03, 2003 08:21 am AIFF is an apple Mac file - the min difference is that it's encoded with "Big-Endian" (moterolla) byte order. WaveLab / Soundforge will open these with no problems.

Anybody know of a 24-bit AIFF to WAV conversion utility? ... although I'm still fairly convinced there is something wrong with the AIFF files.

Aug 03, 2003 02:45 pm jues mentioned WaveLab, I'm certain that'll do the trick, but it's an expensive app. There's plenty of free file format converters out there, but finding one that supports 24bit may be tricky. Check out tucows.com or download.com and search their archives

I tried Audacity and it worked! Read in the 24 bit AIFF's and spit them back out as 24 bit WAV's. This is a prety neat utility for free.

Aug 06, 2003 12:02 pm Bob, and to top that, Audacity supports VST plugins. It's not WaveLab, but it's probably the best audio editor i've found in the "free" price range.
