Hey Guys,
Well, looks like I'm getting busy... Far too much work on, but you know how it goes.
I'm currently in the process of mixing a rock band that had the pleasure of recording here ;) This is the first track that I have turned out, it's called "Tread Carefully" and features some "interesting" lyrics.
I went for a sort of early Radiohead, indie type style, dunno if I quite pulled it off, let me know what you think.
Oh, and should the vinyl crack at the start stay or go?

Thanks

Jul 28, 2003 12:33 pm wow big drum sound, I felt like I was right there in the room with the band. Excellent panning on the drums, I feel like the kit is the biggest thing in the room and I can picture a giant 10 foot tall drummer sitting behind the beastly setup.
The noisey chorus is fun. Very grungy if I can say that, it's a compliment to the band, seriously.
Strange watching this song play back in my Delta control panel (looking at the dB meters). The song doesn't sound over-saturated and it doens't distort, but it's just *pancaked* against zero for a majority of the recording. What did you use to limit so hard yet so transparently?
I'm okay with vinyl sound. You run the risk of some non-musician listeners thinking that it is some unprofessional mistake, but hopefully the rest of the recording will put them in their place. Great job
Oh, cool band, BTW, tell them they rawk! ;O) -j

Jul 28, 2003 12:45 pm That would be the impressive talents of Waves L1 at work. A worth investment in anyones book :)
Jul 28, 2003 01:20 pm jues that sounds really good. i'm not sure about the vinyl crack although i have nothing against vinyl cracking...maybe it's the speakers i'm listening through (bad ones) or perhaps it is the vinyl sample you are using--but my first impression was of static not vinyl. it could be that the static needs more bass or mid frequencies. if i listen closely (ive listened twice) i can tell its vinyl.
fantastic sound on the toms. during the fills it just sounds great. i'm going to have to remember that sound. and the distortion in the chorus feels very alive...noisy and energetic, one of the styles i like best.

Jul 28, 2003 02:40 pm Excellent job jues. I love how you get things sitting in a mix, very pro sounding.
As for the vinyl, if your going to have it I think it needs to be about 2-3 (probably 2) times longer in length and possibly a very slight boost in lower freq.
Great Job.
