Hey Guys,
The site looks great. I almost had a coronary when I went to your site and it was dead. Thank God the links worked. I do miss the old post with all that great info, but do fully understand the move forward!

As for XP Pro (which I have. What sound cards would you guys recommend that has at least 8 to 10 ins and outs. I will be recording mostly acoustic music with no very little Midi. Software that I will use is, Cubase VST32.50, Sonic Forge 5.0, FruityLoops 3 and Wave Lab.

Thanks,
Gus

Since you are using Cubase/Wavelab, which are ASIO complaint (very cool) I would highly recommend EchoAudio's Layla. You can see all about it right here:

A very solid sound card, but if you do not have an Intel chipset on your motherboard, you may have problems, if that is the case, try the M-Audio Delta 1010, also a very cool card, the only thing you won't get is ASIO support, but what you WILL get is a very stable card that will work with almost any PC configuration, see it here:

I know that msot of the guys here use Echo cards. Me personally, I am using XP pro as well and I am using an ardvark Q10. It has 8 XLR/1/4" inputs and other inputs on the back. I got it beacuse I didn't want to have to use a mixer, you can plug right into them. I will say that right now they are not fully supporting this card with XP, but they have a pre-release driver out that works well. I was told a week or so ago that they are about 3-4 weeks from releasing their fully supported driver. I don't have any experience with the other cards that these guys would recommend, but I am happy overall with this and I don't do any midi recording either, so having 8 direct line inputs is great. I would wait for the fully supported driver if you can, their website is www.aardvark-pro.com. I can say though that there tech support was really cool about helping me get everything working. Good luck.

Thanks for the fast reply guys!
I'm running a duel, both are 1 gig each. BTW what is ASIO? Also do I need to use a external mixer with this card (no breakout box?)and if so what type of mixer do you recomend?
Thanks again!

And I use the Delta card from M-Audio. As I have one of the infamous chipset's dB spoke of. I will give M-Audio very good rating's as they seem to keep a very up to date driver's data base. I just installed a BETA driver for an ME fix for my MIDI interface. And am going to do the same for my Delta.

ASIO is just another type of driver that echo cards and a few others use, it's not really common, but it is very low-latency and a very powerful driver. Steinberg uses it in all their apps, but not many (if any) others do. But now with WDM becoming a stardard drvier model, it is also a higher-performance driver, and almost every app and every modern sound card does or will shortly, support the WDM standard. WDM is not as good as ASIO, but it's close.
