Amp sims

almost a year ago i wrote an article here about three amp sims out ( the POD 2, V-Amp2 , and J-station) . I've had a bit of time to play with all of em now and have read hundreds od reveiws not only by the company's but of owners . It seems the most popular one is the POD , and at that the POD seems to have the widest scope of "love it" or "hate it" , there seems to be not middle ground with peoples reviews of this peice of gear . The V-Amp ranks the lowest in the over all #'s but still fairs well , it's a "good" amp sim , most will agree , not perfict but very good for the price . The Best reviews were of the J-station ( i'd have reserched the genesis for Digitech , but digitech own Johson, and they are almost the same peice of gear) I was supprised , how people prefered the J-station over the POD for direct recording . I'm not Bashing the POD , ( I had one and liked it) but I'm sheding a little prise to a peice of equipment that doesn't get much credit and is now not being upgraded due to the Gen-X line by digitech . Just thought I'd share my thoughts on the rising popularity of amp sims .

PS the Recto sounds dead on on the J-station , i i do say so , tweak it a bit and choose the right cab and man I swear it sounds better than my friends Mesa , and the cleans are great .

Note : the common thing that they all have is the auto wah effect is terrible , but most auto wah (in my humble oppinion) aren't the greatest.
just my 2 cents.

I have a POD and it has some real dead sounds, but most are good.
I would imagine that would hold true for all brands.
I have a bass POD that has some useless sounds also, but overall it's good.

hmm dead sounds?

for distortion, the only sim i use on my pod is the rectified sound, which is the best one in my opinion. you can run it through any cabinet and it sounds different but always good.

I agree, I use Rectified all the time. It's great. I love my POD. Heck, I run that sound through my Ampeg biamped bass combo and it sounds awesome. Good bottom from the 15, good sizzle from the 8, it's rocks.

that has been some of the remarks on a lot of peoples posts about the POD , runing it through an amp and it sounds grat , but direct it comes up a little short , a great peice of equipment , and not a waste of $$ , but I was suprised how well the J-station hit the rectifed sound dead on , with out amping it .

It's all right, I'm not trying to down play the POD by any means, and it is a top-notch rig. I'm just sharing my sheer delight of the J-station and saying, that the POD is not the only thing out there that has great Amps on it. I'm my opinion the J-station, POD (2 and pro. I've never used the XT) and the Higher priced digitech one( I can't remember the name) can stand by each other . They all have there pro's and cons but as for pro sounding sims they do the trick . DB you were the one that got me into experimenting and using amp sims almost 2 years ago, so you helped create this monster hahahhaha :P

back to the amp sims , there is one amp on there that sounds better than the real deal and it's on all of the sims is the Marshall amp , and man this guy over here has a small combo 12x50 i think , and it sounds ...well not up to the name he bought , but the "hot rod" , or what ever the setting they call it on the POD, j-station or any other , sounds better than the real one .

I guess dead sounds was a bad description. I'm knocked out by some, and disapointed with most of the boutique amp sims.
I know if I were a better player I could make them sound better.
