Just got home a few hours ago with a brand new M-Audio Audiophile 2496. Bought it at Guitar Center for $150. I'm trying to be sure I'm doing the right thing for a Windows XP installation. I saw a mention in a previous posting that even though card packaging, printed, and on-line PDF manuals don't mention XP support, that the CD enclosed in the box has XP drivers. My concern, before installing the card, is do I have a current revision of this product (the circuit board is stamped Rev A2)? I wanted to be sure, so I dropped-in the driver CD and checked to see what was on it. I see that the most recent file is dated 3/26/2001 & I see no mention of XP support on the CD. So then I went to the m-audio web site and found a how-to manual that says that the CD should have XP drivers on it & to ignore the message about not passed Windows logo testing.

If I need to go download more current driver and/or app S/W, I can handle that. I'm just not clear on whether I should install S/W from the CD (enclosed in the box with the card), even though the latest file is dated 3/2001 - or should I skip that and got get all S/W from M-audio?

I did check-out the drivers download page from the m-adiio web site and it says that the most recent driver for the Delta Audiophile 2496, for Windows XP, is the 5.10.00.29 Windows Delta Series WDM Driver (dated 6/13/2003). The synopsis on this download also mentions doing certain things in support of ASIO. From all the other postings I've seen on this site, I gather I need an ASIO driver. Is this m-audio wdm driver what I need to download to get the ASIO driver for XP?
Up to my alligators in all this soundcard stuff -

The MME, WMD and ASIO drivers are all bundled in the same download, it's the .29 that you have already seen...

Bob,
You might want to just download the newer driver from ther site and save yourself a step.
I installed the older driver and a day or two later got the new one.

Thanks dB & grumpeedad - Alright I'll download the new (.29) driver. Is there anything I need off the original CD? Also curious -- did the CD that came with your Audiophile contain any XP support? or for that matter, any files dated more recent than 3/26/2001 ?

No, the download will have all the files needed to install the Audiophile. There may be some "demo" programs or other crap that may be on that CD (I don't recall if there is), but after downloading the new drivers nothing from the original CD is needed to operate the card that isn't contained in the download.

My 44 came with 2 other CD's. Tascom's GIGASTUDIO, which didn't like XP and something else stupid I don't remember. Probably AOL, HA!
