So what should I add first?

so like i have this:

Behringer B-1 mic
Behringer UB1622FX-PRO
cables?:D
SHARP MD-MT290H(bK) Minidisc
and a Soundblaster soundcard

so I was thinking after the summerholidays
I'll have like 1200 Euro's
that's 1415,26 US $

so i was thinking myself the Roland XV-88 is 1600 Euro's in Holland and if i work an extra month I could get that BUT I need a good soundcard too and the soundcard is way easier to get but i really need the XV-88 too because of the sounds i can get out of that thing (if only i was rich)

what would you do..

I think that the sound card should be your first priority. What is the point of having a professional studio sound module if you then have to record it via a cheap and nasty sound card?

Also, what do you require the XV for? There are many cheaper alternatives, including older Roland modules and the Proteus range of modules.

pwew, that's an expensive synth! You could save a bundle by buying a simple MIDI controller and using freeware softsynths. Get a decent VSTi host and you'll open yourself up to tons of free VSTs

personally I'd go with another soundcard, because I don't know what I'd do without my Delta 44

that's what I'd do

Because a friend of mine has the roland xv-88 and i borrowed it a while back and I think it plays like really nice and has cool sounds and
the XV for me isn't JUST for recording but i'll take it to gig's too

and i really want my own instead of keeping to borrow it ... you know:S

Yup, I agree with da boys above, the sound card is the first thing I would do to upgrade. Based on the info you give here, it's cuurrently your weakest link in the chain.

Sondcard, yup yup. Age old GIGO. Regardless of periferial equipment your recordings will sound only as good as what you can get in and out of your computer.

So, like, based on what? If you need MIDI, the Audiophile.

Both card use the same drivers. the 66 has 2 more analog ins and outs but has no MIDI ins and outs, which the 2496 has. they both have S/PDIF ins and outs.

There really isn't a hard, cold "best" of anything, it's all what you need from them.

presley, are you doing the one-man-band thing? then go with the audiophile. OR do you plan to ever track an entire live drumset or otherwise record more than two simultaneous tracks? cough up the extra $ for the 66. now let me ask you, do you really need s/pdif digital?? because you can save a few bucks and get the Delta 44, which is the 66 without s/pdif.

no not MIDI, s/pdif. you've already got MIDI on the SB

will you be recording more than two analog audio channels at once?

then go ahead and get either the 44 or the 66. it'll save some headaches in the long run.

have you decided wether or not you need s/pdif?

and what SB do you have BTW?

Yes, I guess all told I would recommend the 66 for your needs and probable future needs, since you have MIDI on your SoundDisaster.

I also recommend you buy it through a link in the Gear Bag section if Musician's Friend will ship to you where you live ;-)

That's a bummer. I have bought everything for my studio over the net in the last couple years. Saved a ton of money doing it and haven't been burned once yet.

Hell, this month I actually bought a new kitchen sink and faucet over the net and saved $200 just on those...
