oh cool - maybe i should bid for these!

i was thinking, you could make a big screen thing outa wood with these dotted all ver it and make a kinda stereo mic wall out of them

or even better, how about a folding screen that would surround you and pick up sound from front back and sides?

great idea, each one needs it's own preamp, and that's just a couple volts.

one thing: you're going to encounter phase problems unless you get real lucky.

Personnaly i'd just use them for disposable purposes like dipping in the fishtank and freezing in icecubes (to record them crackling when they thaw!), attaching to the outside of my car, and other hazardous things that you wouldn't do with your regular mics.

BTW. i have no experience wiring these things up, so don't look to me for technical help engineering your inventions :O)

lol...ya crazy foool (as Mr T would say)! you do more mental stuff than i do! freezing microphones - sheesh!

anways, seriously, they dont look too hard to wire up i dont think - theres only two blobs of solder on there...

dunno if i need 40 of em though, might check my local electrical shop and just buy a few if its cheaper...

do it do it! and while you're in there, rip out the ringer transducer. wire it backwards and make a contact mic out of it!

not unless they're one and the same. house phones have a little piezo transducer, looks like a flat little round piece of brass with two wires coming off of it. here's some good directions on making them. home.earthlink.net/~erinys/contactmic.html it's supposed to be real easy, but i've never tried it because i have a pair of DeArmond contact mics that my homie Kai gave me.

omg I can't believe I haven't tried that yet... it would be pathetically easy....you can use any speaker actually it just takes less energy to drive a piezzo the hard part would be finding a piezzo you like

I know what I'm doing tomaroow...:) thanks for the link

try lots of different sizes. i think each one will resonant on different freqs. you can find piezo transducers in anything that blips and bleeps, like microwave ovens, alarm clocks, printers and copiers, telephones, all kinds of common consumer electronics around the home or office.

stress relief? i hear that! if the screws give ya heck, drill 'em out! find a nice metal bit slightly smaller then the diameter of the head of the screw and run it straight down thru the screw. once it catches into the screw it might just grab the screw and start turning it out for you.
