Saw the Dixie Chicks last night

At the Xcel Energy Center (Home of the Minnesota Wild). That is the first concert Ihave seen in the main arena, excellent sounding room.

I just need to know one thing...is there an instrument on earth that the brunette can't play. Those sisters are two of the most talented musicians I have ever had the pleasure of seeing live....with the obvious exception of ::bows in respect:: John Paul Jones...

I am not a "country music" type of person, but the Chicks aren't really country, they rocked the house.

I wasn't a 'Chicks' fan till I heard 'Home'. I heard it before all the political hoopla. That CD completely turned me around. The talent of all 3 is just amazing. If they come to town I will definately be there. I enjoy country music although I don't go to see live country acts anymore but I will make an exception for them.

Plus-I like their politics.

Ya, I love to see people get mocked and verbally pummeled for using a right they have...sheesh...who's the real traitor in that senario?

Crash, it was a fabulous show, very cool. See it when they come, you won't regret it. Besides that, their pretty easy on the eyes too... :-)

My girlfriend is a huge Chicks fan, although I am not I do respect their musicianship. I also dont understand the hoopla surrounding. People have the right to speak their minds, especially in a time of war, no matter what forum they so choose.

It's no small wonder why most of the backlash came from the southern U.S. The southern U.S. has a large majority of poor and under-educated citizens you have no intellectual grasp for the peace before war ideology.

There, now I just spoke my mind. We need artists in a large public role to say what us "small" people cant say or if we did wouldnt be heard.

OK, now murray is a traitor, let's ban him form the radio and smash his CD's :-) hehehe

I agree with ya, if she woulda been thinking she wouldn't have said that int he first place, even though she has every right to, it was a horrible business decision. I respect her right to here opinion, though I don't agree with it.

Regardless, the concert kicked.

i'm not so sure about natalie's comments being a bad business decision. you've got the whole "any press is good press" thing, and they got an awful lot of good press. last time i heard, their albums and concert tickets were selling as good as ever, despite the huge clear channel smear campaign.

i think crash's post is pretty telling and representative of how a lot of people appreciate what she said. people will be increasingly proud of the dixie chicks as the whole bush facade continues to crumble.

bush comments said with all due respect.

Their album went from number one to falling off the charts almost immediately. They have been gaining ground back after a MAJOR spin campaign, but it DID cost them.

True, it will hurt their reputation in the long run.

i said that it would HELP their reputation.

i've heard a number of horror stories with the tracking and statistics systems in place to show where people are in the american music system. the same people who put the smear campaign in place against the dixie chicks own their record label, the radio stations that play them, the pressing plants, the charts themeselves...not exactly a good recipe for trust!

The "any press is good press" theory generally only holds true for people looking for the "bad boy" type of image. Ozzy Ozbourne, Black Sabbath, Kiss and others are older examples of that, currently people like Howard Stern, Marilyn Manson and the like are more current examples. For anyone temporary "curiousity sales" are likely, but abandonment by long term fans and such are also likely, so it's a wash.

It's a fair point though, When Ozzfest came to town some of my religious radical friends went to protest, which cracked me up, cuz all it really did was get the whole show 10 times more publicity and helped ticket sales considerably.

There are valid arguments to be had on both sides of this issue. In the long wrong, the Chicks will be back on top simply because they are extremely talented and extremely cute...

I tend to agree with the any publicity is good publicity argument - NOWADAYS.

In the past it HAS hurt people, and their careers have been damaged - two examples come to mind Paul Robeson, the black singer (1930s) and ib the UK recently Gary Glitter. The first for 'communist' sympathies, the second for looking at child porn. So it doesn't always work out. But with todays media interest in celebrity for its own sake you have to have some crap mamngement not to turn any kind of media publicity for things you've said or done to your long term advantage.

Even Majors who cheet on quiz shows can make $$$s through selling the story, film rights, writing memoires, doing adverts, etc.

There are only one or two taboos that would kill your career, and child abuse is (rightly) one of them.

The Dixie Chicks will have sugffered a short-term backlash, but they will be around selling CDs and performing live after Bush haS RETIRED, providinh they have astute management which I'm sure is the case. For avery reaction there is a re-reaction - they will be heroines for speaking out!

Incidently i wonder if they would have been as badly criticised had they been in a heavy metal or punk band? I think a lot has to do with the 'red neck' genre that Country music is seen as.

no, people in heavy metal and punk bands have been speaking on this for a long time. not to mention those who have been screaming about injustices back before i could focus my eyes.

a good song for country folk that doesn't stir up any anger (except the "righteous" type) is "have you forgotten"

launch.yahoo.com/artist/d...rtistID=1044978

this song makes conspiracy theorists like myself explode.

It was one of the worst recordings he ever did. But for the value of it I do have it on vinyl.

But as dB said, the Dixie chix rock. I saw them years ago when they first came on the scene and they were good even back then. I dont care what she said, maybe it was bad timing on her part, but big deal. Remember when John Lennon said the Beatle were bigger then god. Oh well, life does go on ya know.

And ya, they are very nice to watch as well as listen to.

Come on Noize, don't you watch, he really said they were "bigger than ROD", meaning Rod Stewart... :-D

I thought he said the Beatles were 'bigger than Jesus' which, depending on your religion (or none), may be an important theological difference!

What he meant of course was a comment on the modern world that (especialy young) people were more interested in going to see pop stars perform than in going to church to pray. Now whether that's a good or bad thing is an important theological question!

Church or a Dixie Chicks concert...now let me think about that one!

No kidding, flame? I am glad you said that or I may not having noticed how hot they are :-)

It's the brunette that gets me in a tizzy...she is pretty hot and talented as hell...during the show she played more than 6 different instruments, and played them WELL. And her sister (The blond who is NOT the singer) is quite impressive in here own right, she can play some killer chops...

Whoa...
