Reason...changing samples

Is there a way to use the Matrix sequencer to change samples in the sequence? Is it as simple as "copying to track" the sample and then automating the Matrix? (Or, if you are just using the same Matrix pattern on the samples in question, not even automating it?)
As it is, I've only been using maybe one or two samples per track (meaning .wav files I've brought in)and just creating a different sampler and matrix for each one, which seems pretty ludicrous to me.

i don't use Reason, but all my musician friends do. I think you'll use Redrum or the NN-something samplers. It can be done, I'm just not sure if it's the Matrix you would use. I gathered the Matrix was more for pitching a single sample around like in a piano roll

with th nn-xt you can assign different samples to different keys, so you can have loads. you don't have to use the matrix at all with the samplers, i mean you can and it's nice, but you don't haveto.

what sort of samples are you talking bout, pads, bass drums, vocals....it may help to know.

anyway, it's all virtual, you can have 2,000 nn-xts so long as your pooter can handle it!

How dare you question the power of my pooter?

I'm mostly talking about drum loops and short fx. I did have one problem with a sound that I originally put into the ReDrum (a sort of weird short vocal thing) and when I tried copying the pattern to track, the notes got clipped. I tried drawing them in, but the pattern was so intricate, I couldn't get it like it was in the ReDrum. I went to find the file (I think it was in one of the banks that came with Reason)to put it in a sampler, but I couldn't find it except in a pop-down menu for the ReDrum.

P.S. rough equivalent of my pooter-power:

well, with drum loops i use dr:rex's. the clipping can occur due to the slicing of the sample..with the premades you have no control...if the comps tempo is too far from the tempo of the sample then it can sound terrible.

if there's a lot of drum loops i usually set up an entire mixer just for drums and put it into one of the channels in another mixer (you can chain them but some control is lost i think). in reason 2.5 tho there's a spider module, which means you can put 8(?) inputs to one out to the desk..hmmmmmm.

to edit rex patches you need a copy of recycle, also by propellerheads, that splits up samples how you like, you get to say how much it'll stretch an all dat stuff.

with short fx i find the nnxt works great, just load as many as you need into the one nnxt use a midi keyboard or the piano roll in the sequencer to play them, you get a far greater range (i think about 4 octaves more).

ps..this is just me talking, i learned reason on the hop and may not have the best solutions...but so far they work for me.

Thanks for the info, pixel.
As to that link, yeah...I usually don't go for "cute" stuff like that, but I think that one is "worthwhile."

Get REAL close. :B
