theres a new yourk based anti folk singer songwriter/cartoonist called jeffrey lewis who ive admired for quite a while, and last night he played probably the best gig ive ever heard played.
the musicianship was pretty sloppy at times, the sound wasnt amazing and the venue was small and hot BUT he built up a great rappore with the audience, played his heart out and invited everyone onstage at the end to jst grab an instrument and play along. top!
anyways, i recommend checking im out - theres a few tunes here : artists.mp3s.com/artists/229/jeffrey_lewis.html

May 29, 2003 12:41 pm yeah, though im ashamed to admit..maracas! in my defence (defense for all you yanks!) all the guitars were taken. springtime was the song, funnily enough, where they invited everyone up on stage to play...

Jun 03, 2003 09:40 pm Jamie, only you would find an online dictionary to hunt that word down. Very kool though indeed.
Jun 04, 2003 02:40 am i keep a dictionary.com open. ask Minkus ;O) And I use "funnily" every now and then. What? Don't they have "funnily" in Minnesota?

Jun 04, 2003 06:25 am I saw the best gig of my life last Thursday - Springsteen at manchester. What a performer - phenomenal. How does he manage to play like that for 3 hours at 54? Trouble is now, how do I follow that?

Jun 05, 2003 09:10 pm We have funnily cakes at the state fair. And I am of French Canadian heratige so colour and tyre are familiar to me. If you do a search Ill bet you can find posts were Ive used the word colour several tymes.
And I did notice dB used the word funnily in a post recently. I love new words.
And glynb, you dont follow Bruce, you follow were your path takes you.

I appreciate what you mean Noize2u absolutely - be yourself - totaly agree.
What I meant was something a bit more mundane and less philosophical - eg: it will be difficult to find a gig to come anywhere near that level of excitement! But I'm still glad I went.
On a much lower level, I've found that since I got back into playing gigs myself i find it much harder to be impressed when I go and see other local bands. Before I was playing live myself I could go into a bar and just enjoy a reasonably competent local band, now I find myself being really picky. It's not deliberate, I do go with the gebuine hope that I will have a good time and see a great performance, but find myself ever harder to please!

Jun 10, 2003 09:59 pm That is my biggest problem as well. I cant go and see a band anywere and not be objective about the sound, the playing, and all that. It is a very bad habbit, but at the same time I guess it keeps my head on straight and lets me know I can still here a good sound from a bad one. And know a good tune from a bad one as well.
