WingedWolf Productions down for the count

A phantom Coca-Cola was mysteriously spilled on my Fostex by what must have been a ghost since no one in the house will admit to it. The result is, my recording studio is out of business. All of my recordings are about useless too because my computer can't read the zip disks created by the fostex. Basically all the fostex can be used for now is a possible mixer. So once I have the money for a dedicated PC, I can be dragged kicking and screaming into the present world of PC recording.

use contact cleaner. works for beer + mixer combinations, as a friend of mine can attest.

wingdwolf, if all else fails, you can always locate someone else with the same Fostex and a PC who you could commission to rip all of your tracks to wav files and burn them to CD. At least then you'd still have your projects up until now.

Jamie, The fostex uses a proprietary language that can only be read by fostex. I found someone with an FD8 who'll can convert everything I have for a small fee so I'll be able to use the tracks when i make the move to PC.

MinkusMaz, It's not so much the outside that's the problem, but the fact that nothing showa on the screen but a bunch of gibbberish. Also it won't record now. I may just see if I can grab another Fostex for cheap. Heck, they're almost totally obsolete now.

sugar water is an excellent conductor of electricity.

there's a chance that, unless you've fried an IC or a resistor somewhere, you *may* be able to open the thing up, unplugged of course, and clean up the sugary mess, and it may just magically start working again. I had an ex-gf that managed to spill pepsi in my computer keyboard twice and i was able to get it to stop constantly spewing the same letters with some warm water and a towel.

i would think opening the Fostex up will void the warrenty.. but then again i would imagine so does feeding it caffeinated beverages.

good luck
