I'm pretty sure it has a presence peak at around 2.6khz for vocals.

Tho, don't hold me to this.

As for getting a flatter response via EQ'ing, you will be far better off using a condensor mic as dynamics tend to be far less sensitive and, as previously mentioned, have quite varied frequency responce patterns.

i'm looking at the documentation that came with mine. the response curve looks like this:

there's a linear increase from -10dB at 50Hz to 0dB at 200Hz. Boost your bass accordingly. Careful of proximity effect which will boost the 100Hz range when you get too close. The mic doesn't respond below 40hz.

there's a tiny dip centered at 400Hz. Boost about 3 dB here with a medium to wide Q.

the biggest one is the presense centered around 7k or 8kHz. Cut this by 6 or 7dB to fix a majority of it. It's wide, with about 1dB as far away as 2kHz, and as far up at 12k, so a medium to wide Q will be needed. Response falls swifty after 10kHz. The mic doesn't respond above 15Khz, but the steep slope from 10k to 15k might benifit from some boost there.

If you want to be technical you can correct a few more tiny dips at 8k and 12kHz. Boost a couple of dB with a tight Q for each one.

Hope that helps -j

Actually, second on my "to-do" list for HRC Pro is a plugin preset sharing section where HRC Pro members can upload and share their favorite presets for effect plugins.

Actually, a preset to flatten out an SM57's signal is a GREAT idea for one to go up there...now that Jamie has shared the info the preset would be easy as heck to make...and really, Jamie is the only guy I know that has documentation for the 57, everyone else I know that has one has bought them used since they are virtually industructable.

Thanks for the idea Minkus :-)

no problem. that preset sharing section is an awesome idea. a little something to give some initial footing to those of us who have not been working with EQs that long is going to be very appreciated.

Thanks, glad you like the idea.

One just has to keep in mind it will only be available in the HRC Pro section, standard members may be able to view the list (jury is still out on that) but only pro members can upload or download them.

The line I have draw between what is available to standard members and pro members stands at file system interaction. If a feature actually involves uploading and downloading files, it is then a Pro only feature due to the extreme bandwidth it can bring with it...tho preset files are usually small, it still crosses that line.

And tomorrow is the last day to sign up for HRC Pro for the discounted price. :-)
