The new HP-Mastering plug...

Infusing your tracks with an extra dose of Red Die #5, for that X-tra punchy, pro-polished track that you Cah-rave!

Tastes great, too!

Geez, I hope we didn't scare him away... I really didn't know where he was going though.

Well, I hope not too. T'was not my intention. He did have a couple of days to clarify, in which he did not. Maye he'll be back with a different example of 'punchy' that would mke some sense?

One of the things I believe fro getting a good mix that enables you to get punch as well as clarity, space etc is correct gain staging when recording and then mixing. If you run yourself out of headroom it is very difficult to get any of those things. If you allow yourself plenty of headroom through sensible gain staging you then have the opportunity to creat punchy mixes. Get this aspect wrong and you are pushing water uphill with a rake!
An article here to explain this a bit

J-bot, the funny thing is, if you need thick skin here, one must need platemail armor at other recording web sites! This forum is pretty tame by way of comparison.

I'd probably have recommended to remove all compression and make sure Scioccio kept in mind that punch is about dynamics. If he lurks this way maybe he would see benefit from making sure the quiet bits are quiet and the loud bits are loud by comparison and not just by volume.

I'm ashamed to go to most other recording websites, as I can't seem to help myself from over reacting to (what I consider) stupid assumptions and superfluous criticism. My skin is not thick enough, and I have a big mouth. Dang.
