Looking for an interface.

I just bought this computer as an upgrade from what I had. www.tigerdirect.com/appli...&CatId=4947

I'm looking for a good audio interface. I always record one track at a time. I have a mixer with main and sub outs and I'd like to run through that. I also would like it to be rack mountable(more to keep things neat). I suppose I could go with firewire or usb.
Can anyone recommend anything?
Thanks.

Thats a pretty big decision it really depends on what you are looking to do and what kind of software you're running. If you are running protools I would reccomend just a simple m-box, I use one now and it has worked very nice but its limited as far as building upon with outboard equipment but thats becuase its pretty much a consumer grade interface. If you were looking to get a interface that you can build on I would recommend a Digi 002 or 003 its rack mountable and you can use it for home stuios or professional grade studios

Thanks for the reply. Right now I have Acid Pro 4. Which seems to work fine, but I know it's limited. I'd like to get some other software at some point. I know sometimes they come with an audio interface.
I do run some soft synths and would like to play them through my keyboard via MIDI. Which was one of the reasons for getting the computer. Another reason for getting the computer was to be able to run a proper audio interface (mainly for recording quality). My old computer was quite slow.
I basically record guitar though a v-amp through my mixer. Bass and vocals also through my mixer. I have separate drum wavs that I just load into acid pro(one drum per track).
I'm not looking for professional quality but something decent sounding. And quality comes a lot with the engineer, right? lol
I'm looking to spend no more than $400. So the Digi 002/003 seems a lot more than I'm looking for.

Acid is not very limiting at all in my opinion! I currently use Pro Tools 9 but have an affinity for Sony's ACID software. I started out using Acid and a M-Audio Delta 1010lt. Great starter combo in my opinion.

There are some great interfaces at that price level. Check out Echo Audio, Focusrite, M-Audio, PreSonus, MOTU, etc.

I think PreSonus does have a firestudio rackmount right at $399.
www.zzounds.com...m--PRSFSPROJECT which is a firewire interface.

But you might want to look at USB rackmounts which there are a few more options in that price level.

I think Tascam have some good rackmount interfaces in that price range. Check out the US1800 and the US2000 over on zzounds.

Might be overkill for recording a track at a time though, but you won't need to upgrade for more inputs/outputs for awhile so it could be considered an investment I guess.

Edit: sorry, had a double-post. Clicked the submit button 2x :P

I really like the price on the Tascam US 1800. Plus it would give me options in the future.

And which would be faster? Firewire or USB 2.0?

Has anyone used the Phonic Firefly 808? pro-audio.musiciansfriend...face?sku=582375
It looks interesting because of both USB and Firewire

I can't say as I'm familiar with Phonic, but I can say that firewire and USB 2.0 are pretty comparable in terms of data throughput.

USB2.0 is 480 Mb/s whereas firewire is about 400 Mb/s. Though USB 3.0 is coming out in the near future, and apparently IEEE1394b (or Firewire 800) is 800 Mb/s

USB 3.0 would have a theoretical transfer rate of about 5 Gb/s from what I've read.

But for all intents and purposes, (or unless equipment specifically states IEEE 1394b or firewire 800) firewire and USB 2.0 are pretty comparable in data transfer speeds.
