We have a 5 piece band with the Rhythm section being a Guitar, Keyboard and Bass... what are some opinions on whether to double the guitars and pan one left and one right, or just keep the guitar to the Left and the Keyboard to the right??

Feb 09, 2011 12:26 pm What I do (which of course is subjective) is...
Bass down the middle and either duck it from the kick or notch (EQ) the kick and bass so they don't stomp on each other or both.
Stereo track for the keyboards so they are about 20% l/r (wide down the middle).
Double the guitar track and pan about 60% l/r and nudge (delay) by about 30 ms (I think... I use my ears on that one).
Probably didn't explain that very well but that is sort of how I do it.

Feb 09, 2011 02:19 pm I have the keyboards recorded as a Mono track... is that a mistake, should I do keyboards as a Stereo in the future??
Also, what about the OHLeft and OHRight??

Feb 09, 2011 03:47 pm You can easily switch to stereo. I use stereo due to the stereo effects that I apply which give it a full sound. You could always double the keys as well.
If I only have overheads and no room mics I will pan them 100%. If I have room mics as well I will pan the room mics 100% l/r and the overheads about 60% l/r
