I am trying to get a particular sound, and I am wondering if I am working backward here.
I strongly prefer the clean tones of a tube amp (mine happens to be a fender deville) but I cannot seem to get a good distortion tone. Not looking for balls-ripping metal, just looking for good sustained lead tones.
The built in channels on the amp are out, sounds british invasionish.
So I guess the question has to be, Does anyone have any suggestions for a pedal that would work well for a nice rockin/lead tone through this amp? I have not found anything suitable thus far. Thanks

Sep 24, 2010 09:59 am so you'd be wanting to run the amp on clean then? with a dist pedal?
If so BOSS pedals are good. The single steel ones.
Metalcore or DS-1.
Tubescreamer or a Maxon 808 OD pedals are also good.
Failing that, if yer looking for not too heavy a distortion, but youre still wanting the sustain a heavy distortion gives you, then a decent overdrive pedal and compression could give you the sustain you need. Or even a sustain pedal.
Havent heard the amp you mentioned, but maybe if you record a snipet and post it we can have a listen.

Sep 24, 2010 11:04 am Not a plug, but head over to proguitarshop and watch their EXTENSIVE video archive of distortion adn o/d pedals, that should get u in the area of wat u want.
There r literally too many distortion sounds and pedals to create them, especially coupled with ur amp, just keep scrolling through models until u hear something u like

Sep 24, 2010 02:37 pm What kind of tube amp are you using? What kind of settings are you running on your tube amp? Specifically what channel volume and master volume settings?

Sep 24, 2010 09:42 pm I think he said hes using a Deville, which is y i wasnt totally surprised with his post. Fender has the BEST cleans in my opinion but i can understand y alot of ppl dont like their breakup, its not very.. uhh "modern" i guess, its more bluesy n such so if ur giong for even an altrock type distortion u gotta juice it up with a pedal
i think the op should post a sample of wat kind of sound he/shes looking for
Sep 25, 2010 11:01 am I have a fender blues deville that I played regular for years and was actually able to get nice overdrive with a boss super overdrive SD-1. nice bluesy tone and sustain. But found an SRB 808+ to really fill in the gaps. They can be found on ebay cheaper than on the site sometimes, and some nice examples of it can be found on you tube. I use this on a deluxe reverb as well and that is shweeet!
Sep 25, 2010 04:09 pm I didn't realize this recording was still on here, but in the recording "19 Years Old" in my profile you can hear the blues deville with the SD-1 Mainly at the 3:09 and 6:35 points in the song. Not the best recording was done live but may give you an idea of the sound. I have a 4x10 model, they are basically the same amps. and I'll add that the SRB 808+ can do this and sooo much more than the SD-1 did on this
