personally, i like it, its decently organized, and i like how you can show bit rate, play count etc.. (i know others do this too)

i dont like how there is no way to sort your music (by artist by album by album order) like so that you hear the songs in the order there ment to be listened too on an album....

also, what do you use? pros/cons? should i get something new?

thanks!

I've never used it because I've never had a i-compatible product.

Correct me if I am wrong, but are iTunes media not proprietary to that device, with DRM issues with sharing the media and that sort of thing?

I just use good ol mp3's and MediaMonkey stored on my external drive and/or my Blackberry. I rip, listen, share and store at will.

If I am going to buy an piece of music, it's not gonna be with a DRM that makes it a hassle to deal with.

I just hate the way that iTunes treats an iPod more like a PDA than a portable mass storage device that plays music. The whole "place a checkmark besides each individual song you want to put on your device and uncheck all songs you don't want on your device" is pretty dumb.

I wanted a drag-and-drop interface, which Winamp provides. You can drag and drop by artist, by album, or by song. That I love because I was bred as a computer user with Windows Explorer. WinAmp allows you to treat your iPod like what it is, which is a mass storage device that plays music.

Plus I don't subscribe to iTunes, I have other outlets for getting music. I don't like the idea of getting DRM-managed .m4a format music that only plays on an iPod or iTunes instead of .mp3 format music that I can play on just about any device. I subscribe to eMusic and I get totally DRM-free songs that can be downloaded as many times as I want, used on any device I want, and copied as many times as I want.

Plus I simply didn't like iTunes as a piece of software. It wasn't designed to manage a large digital music collection like mine. I like Windows Media Player for managing a large digital collection. You can filter by artist, album, year, genre, recently added, and more. You can create smart views. You can select which details about your music is displayed (bit rate, date, composer, contributing artists, al sorts of stuff that can be included in the MP3 standard's ID3 tag). Plus all of the albums in your collection are displayed alongside their album art. I hate how digital music has started to grow apart from its own album art. But WMP keeps the album art in the picture, so to speak.

Plus I like WMP's online music database (something like metaservices.microsoft.com). Once you get a hold of an album, you can search for it in Microsoft's database and get song titles, album titles, genre, album art, ect. all updated for your songs.

So I use WMP to play, organize, update my music collection. Then I use WinAmp to transfer my music to my iPod. I could use WinAmp for both because it has a very full-featured library utility, but I still prefer Windows Media Player for its library functions.
