I want this topic overwith, this is a recording forum. I am sick of the political banter, I simply wanted to spread some good news I heard two days ago about troops coming home and it turned into a nightmare, I am trying to stop it.

DO you have a problem with that, I am sick of the arguing that resulted regardless of who is right wrong or whatever.

yes, i do think it's pretty bizarre. i know you're the administrator, so you can dictate what you want to happen within this forum.

this really doesn't end the topic. it just demonstrates that you're willing to silence anyone who continues to disagree with you on something about which you are passionate as well.

this is an example of why it's extremely difficult to have an opinion other than the popular one. popular is relative, though...you don't hear the voices of those who agree with me, yet don't want to start fires.

this is a recording forum, indeed. you were spreading some good news, and i just replied to your good news to sadly let you know that it wasn't true along with some explanation. like i said, i'll refrain from speaking my mind from here on forward.

I am silencing an argument, that's all, I HATE it when these forums become a battlefield. Speak your mind, thats fine, just do it with respect, and I should do the same...as should we all.

Think it's bizarre if you want, I am trying to keep a productive, civil and friendly forum and it pisses me off when someone comes in and starts an argument whether intentional or not regardless of who it is. I willnot appoligize for deleted a thread that I found personally offensive and belittling.

I am coming very close to banning political topics all together, I am sick of the whole war subject.

that's why i stay out of the politcal discussions (am i contridicting myself?) because no one ever agrees with me, so I am unable to offer any constructive input.

lets talk about guitars.

Yes, it is up to me, do ya know why? Because I wrote every byte of code for this whole site with my own two hands, I continue to maintain it and pay for the hosting costs out of my pocket and the meeger income from commission sales via links on the site. This website, from it's very beginning over 4 years ago was my brainchild, with one mission to help home recording musicians get better at their craft...not sit and argue about differing opinions on other topics...I do not apologize for taking anything personally, because I do take it personally and I will continue to take it personally. Not the disagreeing, but the conversations expressed and HOW they are expressed. Hell, I have deleted my own posts for being out of line in the past, and I am sure I will again in the future.

I am the administrator, I am also the owner, creator and concerned member of the comunity that we all use to better our music. THAT is what this website is about. I ahve bent over backwards to honor members requests for new features, improve content, recruit good mods with good sense which call me on it when I am wrong (which a couple do in this case). And therefore I consider this my home, and I don't take lightly to anyone arguing and fighting in my house any more than I do here.

The bummer about banning conversation, and the reason I have tried to never do that, is that when they DO stay civil they are fun, enlightening and interesting. However, at times like this everybody's emotions run high and everybody blames the other. And in a way both sides are to blame in any argument for letting it escalate in the first place. And I imagine one of two things will happen, either the warring will end and emotions will subside or the warring will continue and we will get more used to it and emotions will subside...the later of which is most likely from the present vantage point...which is sad...

looks like it's up to us to get objective and see the situation for what it really is rather than from our own limited perspectives.

i appreciate that you put together this site. it's very well-made, and has a lot of great content. thanks again.

Lets just all hug and sing "Kum Ba Ya"...maybe smoke the proverbial peacepipe?

I have come to believe in my 35 years on this planet that the old phrase "you can't please all of the people any of the time" is very true. Everybody has their own beliefs and own motives, whether they be bad motives or good motives, they are still tainting the perception of the person...it's never gonna change. I have been at the top of the hill and have been at rock bottom and have learned a lot in my ventures...ya gotta show respect to get respect...

Not that that means anything to anyone, but it's true. Peace out, I need a beer...

Regardless of our differences, we are all trying to make music and make ours better, and that is an admirable goal, I am glad you find the site useful and informative...THAT is what it is for.

I have to say, I do like bantering politics now and then. And yes Db has a lower tollorance for that bantering than some. But I think more important, however he did it, Db has created and ran a very peacfull, wonderfull site here. I have seen folks from 14 to 65 visit, feel confortable, and benifit greatly from this site. My bottom line is that even beyond Db owning the site, he keeps it very user friendly and if part of how he does it is by keeping away from certain subjects, I'm all for it. I find it much better to learn from success than argue with it.

MingusMaz,
Cudos for the way you approached this. I have no idea what was written etc. but you did a nice job of talking this out and understanding it.

Please no Kum By Ahhh. Or go tell it on the mountain. I really enoyed the 60s. But once was enough for one lifetime!

Did someone say PROVERBIAL Peacepipe?

Man... Once you go proverbial, you never go back to them un=proverbial Peacepipe.

Anyway,
Lets all find something that we can all agree on. And i think we can all agree that this new smoking ban in bars is absolutely absured(not sure if it has hit your area yet, but the only places to smoke in NY is now The street, and your home). Though my local coffee house is an exeption because it has no employees.

it's tough to say. i live in southern california, where there has been a ban on smoking for a long time. i'm not a knee-jerk tobacco hater, but i must say that it is nice to go to a club and not come out reeking forever. not to mention the bloodshot eyes and all that.

most clubs and bars here have a special outdoor area for smokers. that's not all that wonderful in the snowy areas, i suppose.

it really depends on your perspective. i'm not in favor of restricting things like that, but the end result turns out in favor of the non-smoker. i'm torn!

let me add that i'm completely mystified by this PROPEL "fitness water". selling bottled water made sense for those of us whose tap water has been poisoned by MTBEs (a result, in large part, of the corruption of our district attorney in this area). however, i didn't know that you can get more hydrating than water. wait...flavored water with vitamins. i think my brain just imploded.

In Minnesota there has been voluntary "no-smoking" restaurants and all the gov't building are no-smoking...and I agree with Minkus, I like it. For a smoker I am sure it probably sucks, but as a non-smoker it sucks just as much to be forced to inhale that nasty crap, then go home and have all my clothes smell like that nasty crap. Yuk...I also hated bringing my two young daughters out for lunch and listening to "what's that smell" and then trying to explain what it is...you can imagine the "why's" that come out of that conversation...

Face it, there is not one topic on the face of the earth that everyone will agree one, shall we talk about abortion or capital punishment? Those are alwasy easily agreed on right?...

Where is So Cal are you Minkus? I'm in Orange County. I am still a smoker and the CA ban used to bother me, but now I actually glad it's in place. Even though I smoke, I don't want to have to sit in a fog every time I go for a few beers. I'm happy to sit on the patio and smoke my head off. What DOES piss me off is when I'm sitting OUTSIDE on a bar patio and some stereotypical Orance County yuppie asks me to put out my cigarette because it's bothering their kids. I always want to ask, "what part of BAR and PATIO don't you understand? Why did you bring your kids into a BAR in the first place?"

i am in OC as well. i'm in HB. come check out my band tonight at the gypsy lounge in lake forest at 9:30 if you have the time. first gig in a long time. i'll be the bassist.

yeah the smoking ban has also made it so the insides of the bars aren't coated 24 hours a day (even when no one is inside).

as for the people telling you not to bother their precious twinkies with your heathen tobacco evil gas, that's kind of typical OC, don't you think?

Oh, it's COMPLETELY typical of OC! I'll always have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this place. I grew up here and it's always going to be home to me, but some of the people just make me want to puke! Ok, 9:30 at the Gypsy Lounge. What's your band called? I'll want to tell them who I'm there to see so you guys get the credit for it. I live only 10 minutes from the GL and go there all the time! I have to work a little tonight, but I should be able to get there by the time you're going on.

we don't have a name, but i told them to call us SAM Trio (steven, adam, mike). we're filling in for a band called INSINSEAR. the promoter guy was getting a little squirrely with me when i let him know ("that's MY responsibility, not yours"), but i assured him that there would be no problems.

i like this place too, but all the poop in the ocean is a little tough to swallow sometimes. at least there are still places like el morro.

i like listening to 107.9 and hearing how much christian fundamentalists love god's chosen people in israel. i sent them an e-mail one time with a link to a BBC article talking about ariel sharon's many war crimes, and they got mad at me.

i've never been to the gypsy lounge. but i hope to see you there! off to class...

I love the Gypsy Lounge. It reminds me the days gone by at clubs like Linda's Doll Hut. There's no other original music clubs down here in south OC, so I go there quite a bit. They still allow smoking inside and it's got that dingy little club vibe going. The staff is very cool and a lot of very good bands play there. I will make a point to get over there tonight if I can. Peace.

The thing about the smoking ban is, that now new york streets are going to be littered with some violent drunks going out to smoke, as well as littered with cigarette butts on the sidewalk. I guess you cant win either way. It just seems to me that a kid walking past a bar, with lingering drunken smokers outsid, seems to be a tad more dangerous than the otherside.

Blue or Minkus, have you guys ever gone to see the Manic Hispanics? My second oldest son and his mother lived on So Cal, a little town just south of LA. Huntington Beach I believe. When I still played live we played several bars in OC and I had a blast there. I would still love to move out there one of these days. Almost took a job in an LA studio last year, but chickened out. I would miss the snow.

DUDE! Manic Hispanic rules! In fact (and the world gets smaller and smaller), one of the guitar players for Manic was semi-managing my old band for a while. And the other guitar player (Steve Soto - formerly of the Adolescents and Agent Orange for you punks out there!) coproduced a few songs on our last record. Those guys are awesome. They're sill playing around here. I think I just saw an add for them the other day. I still need to get my hands on a couple of their CDs. The funny thing is they are so good and all of them play in Manic as a side project and are all in other bands. At least, last I knew they were.

hey man...sorry if you went out there to see us. looks like the promoter decided to nix us without telling me, even though last night i let him know clearly that i would show up and that it wouldn't cause any problems for him. he failed to let me know that the band for which we were substituting hadn't called him in a month and he had already gotten someone else. i hope none of my friends paid for it, thinking that they'd be seeing our first show in many months. oh well. misunderstandings occur. the promoter said that he likes our music and that he'd like to book something.

we practice in fullerton if you'd like to check us out, or i could keep you informed of our show schedule. thanks for the interest!

Ya, My 18 year old sons mother is friends with them. I had met Steve many years ago on trip out there. I got a bootleg track of Agent Orange doing Pipe Line an old surf tune and he just shreds on it. The Adolescents were up here a few times and I got to see him then. And as far as I know, they are still treating it as a side project, mostly because their lead singer keeps getting sent up to the big house for extended periods of time for certain offenses.

And yes the world did just get a little smaller didnt it. :-)

Indeed it did! Steve is one of my favorite people I've ever met in the music game. He's just just a straight up nice guy. I think he's also still playing with his other band, 22 Jacks. Or maybe that's the band who's singer is always in some sort of trouble. I seem to remember something along those lines. It totally blows me away that you popped out with Manic Hispanic! Now, you guys are REALLY starting to scare me!

I cant remember, but I think 22 Jacks is the band the singer is from. I do know that last year when I was out there we went to a the punk rock breakfast on Sunday morning at about 8:00AM and the Manics were playing and he was allready toasted, dang near fell off the stage. But he still rocked.
