Sonar 7 question (probably a simple noob fix)

Hi,
I'm recording with Sonar 7, have recorded some live tracks of my band and have used metronome during record to record tracks before and everything was fine.

This time I'm trying to record guitarist giving him a metronome to keep time, we have metronome during record clicked and have unchecked metronome during playback.
However it records the sound of the metronome is the recording.

We have the guitarists amp mic'd up and the metronome goes through headphones he has on so it's not that the mic is picking up the metronome.
Somehow there must be some setting that is telling the program to record the metronome.

Does anyone know what setting I need to change? We looked around and can't find anything.

If you don't want to hear the metro-gnome in the recording, simply 'Mute' your metro-gnome track at mixdown... or playback. : )

Oh... if you want to hear it on the headphone signal-path, then you'll have to route the metro-gnomes track-output to the soundcards-outs that go to your headphones. : )

Need to know what soundcard you're using, and if you're using a mixer. Sonar won't record the metronome unless it's being routed in the soundcard or mixer to be recorded.

Yep, sounds like a what you hear button issue.

If your using the built in or a SB type sound card you will need to go into Windows Audio control and then go to the record option's tab and un-check the what you hear button and you will be all good then.

Otherwise, yes it is a mixer routing problem. If you can give us more detail that will help out.

Hi,
Sorry for the long wait, we haven't had our gear in the studio for a good while due to gigging and college.
The soundcard I'm using is an audiophile 2496, Mixer is an Alesis multimix 8.

I've went to M-Audio Delta soundcard options and can't see anything to change there.
It must be a mixer routing problem but I just don't know what to do....for example on the level on the mixer when it's recording with a metronome on in Sonar the metronome is coming through the main mix...I hope I'm making relevant points here as I'm not experienced at all in recording.

We have the mixer connected to the soundcard through the red/white cables.

sounds like you're running the output of your soundcard back into the mixer.....which in turn is re-recording the sound of the metronome into the track....

run your.....wait a sec....are you using the multimix as an interface (firewire to the computer)?

if so...you shouldn't be using the delta at all or vice versa....only one interface should be used....looks like you have two.

You got'ta change the metronome settings in Sonar, or...

Go to Track-view, look at the metronomes track. At the bottom of that track is it's output-designation... change that to output elswhere than the mains, or simply mute that track.

Then there's what Noize and WYD says...

Now, I'm confused.
