theres thousands of samples, you can search easily and i got what i wanted (in this case acoustic drums at about 140bmp) in about five minutes!

at the minute, if you sign up through our link for an account then go to www.powerfx.com you can get five free credits (free samples basically) by filling out the survey (watch for the little pop up window - dont just close it!)

seriously guys, try it, just for the freebies..but im definately gonna be using this all the time now ive found it!

Did you have an account, and were you logged in to that account when you took it? In order to give the credits they have to know who you are. Email them and tell them. Tell them you came from HRC.

Yes indeed, I as well as dB have been using their stuff for years. They now have a nice DXi synth which we are helping test and get rolling. It is a nice simple softsynth that uses soundfont files for its samples. And it is really kinda fun to use so far. They have a free demo of it on their site I believe, but dont qoute me on that. But it is very affordable compared to some of the others out there.

Yeah PowerFx is cool. I have been using their samples a while now, as well as Dyad, which is a neat little softsynth. It's great.

What's to understand? It's a synthesizer piece of software, works via MIDI, sound patches and all the good synth stuff.

Spend a good 10-15 minutes figuring out how to load it and program it (which is via MIDI notes) and everything else is a breeze from there.

Dudes, it is no differant then using an outboard synth at all. It just happens to sit in your software like a pluggin in. And to be honest, you can have alot more fun with it.

What exactly dont you understand about them? I will try to walk you through it.

Do you need a midi keyboard to really take advantage of them?

Could you explain that? Do you hae to program eachnote in Piano roll or how do you use a synth without a Keyboard?

Thanks, Terry

It's just the same as programming MIDI in step time. note by note, beat by beat, copy and pasting measures and riffs...very easy...don't know how else to say it, as it depends on the software you record with...in Sonar 2.2 it is super easy and fast to step-time sequence with MIDI.

Well, right now I am using N-tracks and FL Studio. I really haven't learned the whole MIDI thing much at all. I know I will have to do that before long, but just haven't had the time. Too many other battles to fight right now. :)

Thanks for the info.

thats what puts me off about softsynths...the idea of programming each note individually. i'll try it eventually though, when ive got a system that can handle cubase, that is!

For those of us that have no idea hwo to play a piano, nor have any desire to learn, it's ideal!

I love step time...as long as I have access to velocity and timing tweaks to give it a little more human feel it rocks...but them, sometimes the "human feel" is the last thing I want too...

And flame, you can control the DXis with yoru keyboard also. You just record the midi data or play it in real time with the DXi selected as the output of the track.

Through your music keyboard. Although you can also do it through your PC keyboard, but that is kinda hard. :-)

It doesnt have a midi out even? Uh Oh, then you gots twuboe, as Walt would say. Let me look in the software archives, I had an old school sequancer program that let you step write with your PC keyboard. And I know some software lets you do it, I just cant remember which ones.

Ya, rubbish is a word, I think it is anyway. And thanx for the pic. Like I said, I love those little keyboards, they have some pretty unique sounds.
