Hey everyone.
I'm starting to get more local musicians interested in recording in my project studio. I took the headaches of drum micing out and bought an Alesis DM5 with a set of Roland acoustic triggers for drums, and went with line 6 amp simulation for all guitar/bass work.
I have an old drummer of mine who is coming in to record a cd of his own. He wrote all parts on all instruments, and does some keyboard/sample work as well. I run Sony Acid 7, witch has a basic soft synth with some sounds to it, and I own an old Radio Shack/Optimus concertmate 990 keyboard with midi on it. Only thing is, the sounds in Acid's soft synth are not as solid as he would like them to be.
He is doing a death/black metal style album and is looking for some good chior sounds, and anything that would add to effect for a more darker 'evil' creepy sound if you will.
I am looking for virtual software instrument that is based around keyboard playing that would have a lot of options that won't break the piggy bank. The Roland triggers came to about $400.00 and thats AFTER I took a couple of pads from my Yahama DTXplorer kit for other needed cymbols and sounds.
Thanks in advance.
John

Jul 25, 2009 09:55 am You could check out some of the samples they have at east west here:

Its a bit hard to tell what you're after exactly but there are harpschord samples for a bit of a gothic sound or actual piano samples...lots to choose from.
I've not had one that does a whole bunch of sounds where each sound sounds great, so I'd usually go for the individual sound where it's exactly what I want. One or two great sounds instead of 5000 ordinary sounds.
Hope this helps,
Tom

They have song samples of each thing I think so you get an idea of what it will sound like, but most of the time you'll still need to do alot of work to make the instrument sound authentic (like velocities along with actual volume)

Jul 26, 2009 06:51 pm Rockwood, are you looking for something that will fill a big all around place in the sounds it has and is capable of?
There are many out there, some more expensive and some less. This one is middle of the road but is the best bang for the buck in my opinion. I use it a lot and there are tons of libraries out there for it. It comes bog standard with a ton of sounds and can be expanded to huge proportions.

Another would be Dimmension Pro from Cakewalk. There are a lof of possibilities with that one as well.
