I had planned on making mic's my next big investment...but a friend of mine has a beautiful white Mexican strat with a MIDI controller built in...anyone care to throw in a few pennies for against the worth of a MIDI controller on a strat?
I have never played a guitar with a midi controller...

Jul 21, 2009 07:09 pm Can't say much on the midi, but I've got to hand it to the boys in Mehicho! Those MIMs are pretty ok.
It will come down to your midi interface/tone generator(Roland), and your opinion of that, whether or not you'll really dig it or not.
Sound like fun to me!

Jul 21, 2009 07:42 pm I really liked that 330/6 I was looking at...but I really dig the strat sound. Personally, I have a hard time hearing the difference between an American and a modern Mexican strat...can't speak for older models. Maybe some nuances...but in my limited experience I've found nuances about any guitar's natural tone even if they are the exact same model from the exact same year.
Since MIDI is event based rather than pitch based I'm wondering how exactly the MIDI controller operates. Can it tell what tuning I'm in? If I'm out of tune, I assume the midi event is going to be off pitch too...or maybe the data is quantized to prevent this?
What kind of synth would be useful for a strat with MIDI outs?
Where do babies come from?

Jul 26, 2009 06:57 pm I bought the very first model they had way back. And it had this huge monster plug and cable you plugged in to the guitar. I think it was like a 25 pin block. Then you plugged the synth into an amp. It was pretty lame now that I think about it as it was fairly limited in what it could do. They advanced them quickly after that though and they go cooler each year.
Indeed though its cool to watch what they do with them now. That is only a small example of what the things can do.

Jul 28, 2009 07:19 pm Oooooh thanks, I'm going to go play with the sucker this weekend. This guy owes me $500...maybe I could turn that $500 into a strat if he can't cough up the dough hah.
