Firstly hello everyone, Newbie here<---

Ok so here goe's, First my setup........

I will only list what i feel appropriare let me know if you need more info

Using Onboard sound (Asus P5QC motherboard)
Behringer 1202fx mixer
Dynamic Mic (Unknown make) have had decent sound already so i know this to be an ok mic!

I am dual booting XP 32bit / Vista 64bit and am currently having issues with FL Studio 8 in the Vista environment. Basically i would like to record vocals in Fruity but when i select my sound device i immediatly get a large feedback signal showing on the mixing desk, although it sounds like a screetching sound it isnt as loud as i would expect concidering the levels on the FL mixing desk (please see pic below)

What has got me puzzled is that this only happens under the vista environment and not XP???

I have so far tried reinstalling mobo sound drivers, updating asio4all drivers, swapping from line-in to mic-in but nothing seems to work. Audacity shows an almost clear line with the same audio input device selected, i have included this in the pic but have amplified the recording as you go down to show the little glitches a bit clearer. But as soon as i select my input device in FL the level jumps up on the mixing desk even with the mic turned off
(see pic)

Can someone please suggest something for me to try as i have been racking my brains out on this one for ages. Am i missing a compatibility issue here. Also I am a newbie to vista and its a fresh install on a new machine so i think the issue lies here as i do not suffer this problem when i boot into XP

HELP!!!! :-)

PS this forum has supplied some great reading for my eyes over the last year so i would like to say thanks to all of you here in advance. (glad i joined, look forward to learning)

please correct me if i am wrong because i think i might know how to fix it but for all i know im no where near helping you.

i used to have that same problem... and to tell you the truth i didnt fix it.. i got an interface.

BUT, i would suggest playing with your buffer settings. (i think there in options-->audio settings) or if using asio4all go to the control panel by clicking the asio4all icon in the bar beside your clock(task bar?) and there is a slider you can adjust!

good luck!

sounjds like ya gotta feedback loop happenin'....are your speakers hooked up to the same mixer your microphone is? hard to say but i'd guess yer sending a signal out of your computer's out put right back into it somewhere....how do you have yer mixer and speakers connected?

I am thinking it might be the way the Windows sound control panel is set up in Vista. YOu might be having to turn the mixer gain up too high and that is causing the noise. Look at the windows audio control panel for the recording options and see if the line in is turned up probably full. Then try turning down the mixer. Otherwise it might be that in the recording options of the windows contrl panel the [b] what you hear[.b] button is checked on . Try unchecking that and the feedback should go away.

Thank you all for your responses. I have tried everything you guys have recomended.

sirhc i tried playing with the buffer settings but it didnt make any difference in FL.

whosyourdaddy00 I tried disconecting everything from PC and instead just used a pair of pc headphones/mic but still no difference in fruity so i guess my external setup cannot be to blame. (will try alternate sound card but its crap and not sure if it will work in vista but if it does and i do not suffer the same problem them maybe its related to my motherboards onboard sound???) NOTE the levels in FL as shown in the pic above do not change weather i use mic input, line input, external sound hardware or even headphones/mic.

Noize2u I have tried all volume settings i can find, windows and mobo software but that damn level in FL will not change...

I will keep trying and report back but please if anyone has any suggestions of how to narrow down and eliminate this problem then dont hesitate to throw an idea in the air no matter how extreme...

you said you get a clear line in audacity? or just it looks clear so you amplified it to show the feedback?

no i said almost clear as there was little spike's in the line even without an input device select!!

I have decided to work in XP environment in the mean time and will look into a better audio interface as i think this combined with me using onboard sound is creating the problem.

On another note i would like some advice in regards to recording vocals. I love to practice my verses live and when i do they sound full of life and i have no problem with the way they sound but when i record the vocal they sound dead if you know what i mean. I know there could be many reasons for this and i have tried multiple recording techniques to try and find the answer but am left confused by the final results. My microphone is an old condenser mic that has not even got a name on it so this could be one of the problems but my argument would be that when performing live i can use my voice to good affect and the mic handles this perfect yet when i record with it, its like all the vocal effort has been stripped and it sounds plain with all the warth of the vocal gone,

Can some offer any insight here as im puzzled???
