I noticed all of the changes that you have made on the past few days.

It's looking good!

I just saw how the title bar went from Gray to Blue, to a darker Blue.

Then the separator bar went to a lighter Blue.

I can almost see the wheels turning as your making changes.

Any major changes in the works?

Oh, there is one thing that is a little wired when I am using FireFox.

When you click the Community button, you get this odd Gray bars that appear all the way across the page for about a split second.

Other then that, no issues.

Thanks, man, I appreciate the comment. I am surprised it took this long for anyone to say something.

Actually, it was a happy accident...I have a job opportunity that requires me to learn the Yahoo YUI user interface tools, which I have used a little, so, since I wanted to give HRC a facelift for some time now, I used that opportunity to give HRC a facelift and learn the Yahoo YUI at the same time...since much of the new tooling (tabbed interfaces, dropdown animated menu and some other stuff) are part of the YUI.

The issue you are seeing is simply the browser loading all the tools and rendering them.

I have a few other ideas I am working on...I had a rich text editor for forum posts that worked awesome, but it would come at a cost of the loss of other features, so I decided not to use it.

The remote RSS feeds on the front page are new and really had nothing to do with the YUI, just an idea I wanted to add for a while.

I spent A LOT of time on HRC this weekend, so hopefully I'll land this gig cuz I have learned a TON.

For those that don't know, the Yahoo YUI, if you care, is just a bunch of pre-built tools to interface with to create some of the neat new things we have going on.

I kinda like the direction the look has gone to, finally a bit more modernized.

Weirdly, the survey of users I took a while back, one thing I heard more than once was to modernize it a little...so to you guys that said that, let it be known HRC listens!

As far as anything more in the works, not really, a few little things I have bouncing around, but the major stuff is pretty much done...

I think...unless I am suddenly forced to learn something else...this site started as, and remains to be, a sort of test-bed for me to use to learn and/or try new stuff.

By the way, I didn't wish you good luck on getting the job for a reason.

I don't think that you need luck at all for getting it.

We just know that your going to get it.

haha, thanks...my friends are always more confident than me.

I don't know if I will get it or not but it looks promising...if I do it could mean an 18 month contract that is 90% or better working from home :-) Possibly leading to a full time perm job...so yeah, it'd be cool.

That is interesting...half the reason I went to use yahoo's tools is figuring they'd have all the compatibility issues ironed out as they have the resources...

IE 8 man, another new IE to hassle with :-(

I gotta say I'm digging the blue. I was gonna say something, but given that it looked to be a WIP I figured I'd wait til it was "done" :)

I tried to get into using the Yahoo YUI at one point when writing an http file uploader at work over at the university. They gave me some scripts to look at and try to implement a working upload progress bar. Tried looking at YUI, the Google stuff, and a few others I think.

Well, we decided they were a bit "bulky" for the small task we were wanting to do. (well, I decided that anyway) So I ended up writing some PHP for the upload itself, and interface that with a nice little JQuery script that used JSON/APC to display the progress bar. In the end, I had a file uploader that supported up to 10 concurrent uploads, and a nice progress bar that displayed the overall progress.

The backend PHP code probably isn't the most efficient or glamorous, but it did the job. I also tried to implement some simple regex to assist with securing and filtering user-entered data in the forms.

Er, but yeah I'm yammering too much. I'm digging the facelift. For the record, blue is my favorite color ^_^

I'll second BH as well. Have to run IE 8 in comp mode as well.

IE 8 version 8.0.6001.18702

Firefox is dandy and IE 7 seems good as does IE6.

I did fix the slaggy color issues I talked about as well in IE8. IT was my settings, or I should say letting windows control the color settings for IE. I took control and set it with my video and its all good now. Looks almost as pretty as in FF.

Gotta agree though the new look is really great. For some reason, and I may be dreaming it seems much easier on the eyes as well. But is the reply box down herer smaller or is it me?

Yes, the reply box is smaller. One thing that pisses me off about YUI is that the style sheet take some liberties with other objects and kinda make a headache...the reply box was going to be a rich text editor, but I canned that idea.

I agree with the bulk. If I was looking for one simple, small script, I would not have went the YUI route, but I was looking for more of a "web 2.0" (I HATE that phrase) type of look, with the interactive tabbing, animated menus and a few other things you may not see immediately, YUI handled it well.

One thing about YUI, they have the fully formatted and spaced, humanly readable ode files, but then have a version for production use that removed all the spaces, tabs and carriage returns which decreases size and load time substantially.

Also, external JavaScript files generally cache, so that helps too.

We can't 'customize' our profiles anymore?

It wouldn't let me change the background color.

Other than that, hell even including that, everything looks great Deebs!

That's interesting, I hadn't checked the profile customization yet, but had a mind to in the coming days...it seems most stuff works except the background color.

Likely another thing that YUI kinda took over. I'll look into that. Thanks.

Hey dB.

I did find another thing that you may wish to look at.

On the Subscribe button. I subscribed to two post. But I didn't get any updates until some time this morning. I did catch what time.

And then it just massed emailed me everything all at once.

I had about 20 emails all at the same time. Is that the way it's suppose to work? Or, is it suppose to be a live update?

It is supposed to be a live update, and generally is. Nothing I changed affected that workflow at all, so I assume the mail server just choked up...but I will look into it.

Thanks for the heads up.

I don't know how big of a deal it is, but after all these changes, the 'lil sign that pops up and says "...don't keep clickin'", is way over to the right, and cut in half by the edge of the screen.

testing the popup...ignore this

crap, that didn't work.

trying again...

...this is starting to piss me off. ARGH!

Hey, I might have kinda fixed it...maybe...sorta, in some browsers perhaps.

Ya Rob, I'm pretty sure the email server got choked. I get email on every post for all threads. And there was a bunch that turned up missing or way late. Example like dB's post in this thread from 9:39 pm last night on the 25th. I never even got that one.

Actually now that I am looking I am missing everything from that post on down except for Robs post's. Thats friggin odd. How many others have I not been getting..

Pondering now.

Woo Hoo!

Oh! Sorry!

I'm just glad that it's not just me.

Sometimes I feel that I just have my setting wrong. And I'm sure that there is a lot of fine tuning that I can still do.

I just hate when I have an issue, and it's the first that anyone has ever heard of it.

Notice that I am not just talking about here.

I seem to be the test case world wide for things. Or at least me and Bauder Audio do.

Right now, Linea, the company that makes the amps for Turbosound. Is telling me and Tony Marra (Thermal Relive Design) That they have never heard of the issue that I am having with their amps. And that of all of the amps sold world wide, that this is the first that they have ever heard of someone having a problem with their amps!

Ya right!

Sometimes the email server gets choked up with too may email wanting to go out at once...so that's a non-issue (from my persepective)

I gotta say tho, it is encouraging to see that it ie encouraging to know that people, and even moreso influential members, use the subscription system...I look at the database and see a few use it, but wonder at the value of it...knowing who and when people do does help!

So yeah, no worries, no workflow changed behind the scenes, just likely a bottleneck problem at the mail server.

As soon as you added that function, I did it to about two or three of the threads immediately.

And once the mail sever gets it's self cleared out. It will save me from having to hit the community button constantly.

I'll know when someone has a response to a question or remark.

Awesome! ^_^

I don't know if this has anything to do with the changes you made, but I can no longer get on HRC at work. I used to get on just fine but now the webfilter blocks it as "entertainment."

Oh well, my phone can get on so I can still catch up on the latest threads when I'm on lunch.

I noticed the changes but I didn't say anything. But it does look good. Very neat and tidy. I like the animations on the buttons too.

It's funny, I've been coming here for so long that I've developed a down-to-business routine of opening the favorite, checking the community page, and that's about it. It's only occasionally that I start rooting around so that's why it takes me a while to notice tweaks.

I like changes & the new look, but the top menu bar is really anoying in IE 6 & 8, because it takes up a 1/4 of the page till it finishes initializing. Doesn't seem to do it in FF, but I don't like FF. :)
