Im a singer songwriter looking to record my solo stuff primarily live acoustic guitar and vocals with MIDI tracks backing. Im on the market for an audio interface my buddy suggested the Lexicon Omega, but after reading reviews about it overheating im not so sure about that choice. Also i've heard mixed reviews about the Line 6 UX-2 good and bad. I dont have much money to work with just looking for a decent sound at a fair affordable price any suggestions would be appreciated. Around $200 would be ideal but will spend more if needed to acheive a good sound with equipment that will last.

Mar 27, 2009 03:31 pm I haven't heard of the Omegas overheating before. They're good units, all things considered. Same for the TonePort. Either one should get you going for an entry-level home project studio. I think that the Lexicon is going to have slightly better on-board preamps, but the TonePort has all of the modelling jazz that comes with it.
Just don't forget about all of the other stuff you'll need like microphones, cables, stands, pop filters, monitors, headphones, etc.

Mar 28, 2009 04:04 pm Ive heard the Omega is junk from several people. I don't like M-Audio but they make some decent interfaces on the cheap with pretty decent pre's for the low price. Those line 6 units are pretty solid, not a usb user though? Have good pre's and lots of modelling, great customer support from my experience, good luck.

M-Audio is a good reliable unit in a good price range for simple straight up recording.
If you can use the extra goodies the UX-2 from Line 6 is the way to go. I use one here and love it. In fact it gets used more often then my higher end interface lately. Not sure exactly why either. But as for the units having trouble, I've never seen a thing other then mostly user error during install or updates.
They are probably the most current and up to date with their driver database. Always improving or fixing things windows muffes up.
