All my recordings are very quiet when exported to itunes. Is this something to do with compression? IDK I know nothing about rec. I'm new, so could somebody shed some light on the subject,
Thanks

Jan 18, 2009 05:29 am That is basically it but kind of not. When all a tracks instruments are mixed, the final mix is usually set up as its own seperate stereo track and remixed in a more generalised way. It is then usually compressed and expanded or the overall volume level brought higher. Type 'mastering music' into youtube and you should find some very useful videos that explain the subject and how to do it into much more depth. Cheers

Jan 18, 2009 10:07 am Thanks I'll do that. I put up my first recording on our myspace, not counting the covers i recorded with JUST my laptop,(you'll know what ones lol) So if some one could listen and give me some pointers, besides the fact that 1)it's quiet 2) it's all mono , and 3) the loops are a tiny bit off, that would be great.

Jan 18, 2009 03:43 pm You need to make an adjustment in the level it export to in iTunes then.
I'm not a GB user at all so I can't be of much help there. But it sounds like you simply need to raise the level of you stereo master out before you export it to iTunes.
It simply sounds like you are not checking all the boxes before you export. You need to make sure it includes all the effects and level changes you have made upon export. If you don't, it will siply export a generic mix at a minimum level setting.

Jan 18, 2009 05:26 pm Is it possible that the loudness has to do with my other problem-the sound only coming out of the left headphone? Because i have export set to full loudness.

Jan 19, 2009 11:24 am Sound coming out of one side of the headphones would likely be separate from the other issues.
A true stereo mix should hit you both sides of the cans. I'd check connections (cables) first, then move on to software.
Sound card settings?
