I'm on my second day in a row off of school because it's so freakin' cold out. Coldest weather in several years. This is what Intellicast.com looks ike right now:

At least there's very little wind today. Keeps the wind chills reasonable. It's actually supposed to get above zero today for the first time since Monday!

By contrast, it's in the 30s and 40s above zero in parts of Alaska right now!

How's it up der in Minnesota, eh?

Quit your bitchin, we are a -36 wind chill right now, yesterday it was -47 or -48...car accidents everywhere, car stalls and dead batteries...ARGH!

-24 is downright tropical to me!

Yes, we had similar wind yesterday. And we don't have a bunch of big tall buildings to protect us. Just a bunch of barns and ice fishing houses.

haha, for the record, tallest building around me is the two story houses on the next block...of course, a couple of them spew a lot of hot air...

Cold Weather behavior:

60 above zero: Floridians turn on the heat. Minnesotans plant gardens.

50 above zero: Californians shiver uncontrollably. People are
sunbathing in Duluth .

40 above zero: Import cars won't start. Minnesotans drive with the
sunroof open.

32 above zero: Distilled water freezes. The water in Bemidji gets
thicker.

20 above zero: New Mexicans don long johns, parkas and wool hats &
mittens. Minnesotans throw on a flannel shirt.

15 above zero: New York landlords finally turn on the heat. People in
Minnesota have one last cookout before it gets cold.

Zero: People in Miami all die. Minnesotans close the windows.

10 below zero: Californians fly away to Mexico . Minnesotans dig their
winter coats out of storage.

25 below zero: Hollywood disintegrates. Girl Scouts in Minnesota still
selling cookies door to door.

40 below zero: Washington , D.C. finally runs out of hot air. People in
Minnesota let their dogs sleep indoors.

100 below zero: Santa Claus abandons the North Pole. Minnesotans get
upset because the Mini-Van won't start.

460 below zero: ALL atomic motion stops. People in Minnesota can be
heard to say, "Cold 'nuff fer ya?"

500 below zero: Hell freezes over. Minnesota public schools open 2
hours late.

And THAT is why I'll never live anywhere farther north than I do now.

It got down to 4 degrees in KC yesterday. We're actually getting some snow today. I've found it to be enough to not go to work all week, been working from the comfort of home. I've only even stepped outside twice all week.

I don't know how Canada was ever seen as habitable land. What thick-skinned, fur-covered, nerve-damaged race of people found that arctic tundra and thought "yeah, this'll do"?

65 degrees is pretty much my cutoff temperature. Any cooler than that outdoors and I need a jacket, especially if its windy or overcast. I'd rather sweat out a gallon of moisture in 100-degree heat any day rather than shiver once due to a cold breeze!

Man, everyone has me beat. The coldest it got here was 4 degrees. And I think that was only for an hour.

Right now it's 17 degrees. I have no idea of what the wind chill is.

We still have to pull all of the backline that is going to DC. Truck leaves around 4. So, cold or not, I have to be at work.

Feel sorry for our backline tech. He is going to have to be outdoors for the whole inauguration. And they don't have a hotel room for him. He has to sleep in the truck for this. THAT SUCKS!

26º F with the wind chill - highly unusual in middle Georgia - and later, I’m raking leaves.

After I get a bottle of Schnapps, that is.

Remember to that Deon is talking degeree C here. So he is cooking.

On dB's little temp thingy.

Spring come early for me most times. A s soon as it hits 38 I am back in shorts and sandal's to head to work. Although if I'm going to be outdoors for a period of time I will still put on long pants. 42 though and its short's n T-shirt for the remainder.

For my Boy Scouts our Induction ceremony for new scouts is in early February and it is usually colder then ...... But we still make the new scouts and their parent's trudge through the snow on a dark trail at night. along that trail are my boys. Each reading one of the 12 Scout laws. None are wearing their winter coats. All are dressed only in their class A's standing off the dimly lit on the trail.

It makes a big impression on the new scouts though. It is something they remember until the time comes and they hope to be chosen to stand out there in the cold and bring in the new group of scouts who will years down the road carry on the tradition of out Troop.

And no, there is no other troop that we know of that does this.

And they eventually learn to and do, camp in the sub zero weather.

Yep been in the low 80's here as well, for the last week or so (Central Coast Calif). Usually it would be in the 60's days, 30's-40's nights, here. I dont' mind though, I hate cold weather.

Did I miss something, Dan? Since when were you "Central Coast Calif"?

I drive through there every week...(I'm in Ventura, but I drive between there and Paso Robles).

Yeah, been in this general area now for the last 50 years, currently King City, about 50mi north of Paso Robles. We just passed thru Ventura a few weeks ago on our way to the San Diego Zoo. :)

I just heard a report on a local channel that we are entering another Ice Age.

I wish the scientist's or the media would make up there mind as to which it is.

Global Warming or Ice Age?

Can't have both at the same time.

Well, it's global warming that causes ice ages.

WHAT?

Last I heard we started a cooling trend like 5-6 years ago...that's why now the battle cry of the hip and trendy is "climate change"...since it must be our fault, not just mother nature doing her thing.

hey man, we are so significant.
of course its all our fault. what other reason is there for the Earth being here, other than to accomodate us? ha ha ha.

all those other planets out there are for us to f*** up too, we just gotta figure out how to make em work for us so we can.

Deon, don't laugh to hard on that. IT won't be long and they'll be messing with Mars. It appears there is some kind of life organism there or what not.
