Just looking to see how many of us where working when the New Year hit. For myself, I was working a gig that I have been waiting for since... Forever!

Being that Todd Rundgern is from Philadelphia. I have been waiting to get a call to do sound for him. Well, it only took 15 years! But, did the gig this New Years Eve.

This was a somewhat of an unusual gig. It was for his most devoted fans here in Philly. And two of his friends got married on the stage before hand. It was a Quaker wedding. So anyone could marry them. Turns out that the drummer was the one to do so. It was funny and cute at the same time. The drummer only spoke in Italian for the wedding. And the bass player did the translations. By reading it off of a piece of paper. Barring a few wireless issues that we had.... It went fine.

The gig was great! I have always loved Todd's stuff for years. So getting to do a gig with him, was a small dream come true.

I had brought along a few toys for Todd's sound engineer.

I've always loathed new years eve. Must have been good to have a fun job to do.

I always find it really depressing. Saying that I suffer a lot with depression at this time of year. Snowboarding in a few weeks will sort that out though.

Nice pics,I like the combo stand, looks sturdy. I played a Club that never books 'local' bands with a six piece band and they rang this morning to book next year but it's already been taken hehe. Yeah I don't enjoy it NYE but I like the pay and I can celebrate plenty this week:)

I'm with you, NYE has never been something I have really celebrated, my wife does tho, so since getting married I have more than I even had previously...still loathe it though.

Flame had a new years eve gig, it sounded like his went really well.

Wow, Rob! Sounds like a great gig!

The Cutaways (my band) gigged on New Year's Eve. It was a lot of fun. We played at a restaurant/bar right here in town. The place really caters to an "older" (40-something) crowd, which is fun for a change. People having a great time without acting like idiots.

On a side note, I've been sick for about a week now, so I was hurtin'. I should have been home sleeping! It's amazing what a little adrenaline and a lot of water can do!

Looked like a whammo date for you, Rob.

This year's eve, we hung out in bed and watched old movies. Sober even.

Tambra and I retired from playing live in 2004, and it's been a great vacation. Now we're getting the itch to take a few gigs, since she had recent surgery in her left ear, and can hear out of it for the first time in almost 30 years!

I've always had that love/hate relationship with gig crowds though. Loved them because they showed up to see us; hated them because they're, well, crowds.

Normally, I'm with JDOD, and dB. I hate the crowds that come out on NYE. All so F'in drunk, sloshing beer and champagne everywhere. Asking that stupid question that I hate soo much... "Do you really know what all of those knobs and buttons do?".... DIE!!!!

But, this one was different. I was in the theaters booth. Away from the crowd. Plus, it was Todd, so it was all good.

Deon, The comps belong to the shop that I work at. And I try to take them to every gig that I am on. A lot of the guys that I work with, seem to think that there is no need for them. Which is great for me, I'll take'em.

Hujambo and guitar jim, glad to see that the current economy still has live bands playing for NYE. My gig was extreme last minute. I mean 5 pm on Wednesday. I was all ready for a quite NYE with my wife at home. And she had already threaten me that I'd better stay awake for it this year.

Hey Zek, did you have anyone else with the two of you? No audience?

Hey Herb. I hope that you and wife do. I'd love to hear what you guys would play live. Any chance of doing a board recording of it?

I have some board recordings of us from 2003, but they were direct to cassette and they suck.

We'd like to get into a situation with some other decent players (Macon should have a few) who have the PA setup to do it right this time...Now that I know a bit more about digital than I did six years ago, I'll certainly share if I can get a reasonably good sound going.

Hey dB, Where and whom did Flame do a gig with? I see that he stopped by the other day. I was hoping to see who he is with.

Nice gig then for sure Rob. Big fan here as well.

Jim, nice you can play a close by gig for sure.

For me, just sat and listened to others ramble on about crap. And drank a lot of Jim Beam and Jag.

We had a 'lil jam at the party we were all at... nothing in terms of a gig... just a 'lil jam. I did get to try out the new fiddles in a band setting... that was nice. One of the five-year-olds that was there with thier parents had gotten an acoustic for x-mas, and while we were playing, he came over and sat down with it, proceeded to 'jam along with us', which was really cute. I told him he was hired. : )

Glad to hear everyone had a nice safe NYE.

Ah Zek, we know that your cool. No need to prof that. I wouldn't mind hearing a sample of the recordings.

Noize, you would have loved the gig. It was only 300 people. And the stage was not elevated. You could walk right on to the stage. Some did while he was playing. The only thing that was odd. I was the youngest person there. And I'm 39. The next youngest, was 57. Not busting on anyone's age, but I felt a little out of sorts.

Hue, did you get any pictures of the 5 year old playing along?

Rob, sounds like my kind of show.

Although, if my buddy holds up I'll be taking Ray to the Slipknot show for my Birthday. Supposed to have tickets right up front.

Picture me in a mosh pit with my youngest. I'm trying hard not to. But rumor has it their shows are not like that anymore. Either way, I'm sure it should be fun.

But being at the TR show you did would have been better.

Nothing doing here, sleepy by 10:30 or so.

On a skipknot note, I was looking for Coheed & Cambria info, and saw they're playing detroit area Jan 31. Tickets are way spendy though, so I'm thinking we're gonna pass on that one.

Plus, driving from north mi to south mi during winter is no nice feat. We did that for dragonforce dec 6 and it was a nervous nightmare.

Anywho, last NYE gig I did was a 2 hour drive through the UP for a watering hole. Hardly worth it, and I haven't been out NYE since =).

pjk, not bad price here. Still not cheap after all the crap though.

$37 plus all charges end up around $100. Oh well, at least its a concert I know he will like.

I'm not a big fan of Trivium but I like Coheed and Cambria. And Slipknot, well I do like them. Probably more so then Ray does.
