UB2442FX - Delta44 Setup

I'm using CW Music Creator 3. I want it so my output on the Delta44 (1+2) feed sound from the computer to my headphones and speakers, and my inputs from the mixer (Mic, guitar, etc.)feed through the Delta44 input for recording, without the computer's output being recorded again. I have the Delta44 Output (1+2) going to TAPE IN (L+R). Do I plug the speakers into Control Room Out, or Main Out? Which output on the mixer do I use to input back into the Delta44 (1+2)? I am a newbie when it comes to mixers, and I know my mixer is overkill, but the price was right. Any ideas?

Run one of the subouts into your sound card, and only assign the mixer channels you want to record to that sub.

Here's how I do it, which covers a lot of ground for me:

1. mic, guitar, etc plugged into channel
2. patch cord connected from channel insert (plug up to first click, not all the way in) over to delta input.
3. outputs from delta plugged into the last pair of stereo inputs on mixer (15/16 on my mixer).
4. headphones can plug into headphone output on mixer, or send ctrl room stereo signal to a headphone amp.
5. plug main outs of mixer to powered monitors, or an amp / speaker solution.

One of the reasons I like this, is that I don't have to have my incoming signal routed through the whole mixer: it gets sent out right after the gain knob. The less components the signal has to go through, the better.

Another reason I like this, is if I want to silence the monitors, I just drop the fader for 15/16 and the returning signal being sent to monitors is gone. But the signal is still in the headphones ( and headphone amp, if used). Plus, I can control headphone volume separate from monitor volume. The mixer has a headphone volume, separate from mains output.

Another reason is that if I want to have incoming signal in the cans right away, I just turn up the fader on that channel on the mixer, and more signal is fed to the summing amp in the mixer (and subsequent cans & monitors). If I want the incoming signal to get processed, and then sent back from the computer, I just turn down that mixer channel's fader, and activate my software monitoring for that track (in software).

This also lets you send more than 2 channels to your interface (delta). You can send as many as you have preamps (with inserts) and interface inputs. I use 8 currently. With an 8 channel hosa snake, it's very well structured.

Works a real treat for me.

Thanks for the insight. I'll play with it this weekend.

Also you can use the channel direct outs on the channels 1-8 as this board has them, these are prefader but post gain.

cool, direct outs are even better than channel inserts. This way you can still use the channel insert for a channel insert =).
