I am planning to buy a tube mic but I will use the pream of my mixer(Behringer MX602). Will the quality of the preamp compromise the quality of the mic? or preamps only has the ability to improve the sound?

Mar 14, 2003 12:02 pm What the mic puts out is what the mixer will receive. No compromise. A pre-amp will color the sound of the mic and therefore has the potential of making it sound better. Better the mic, the more the pre-amp has to work with. No harm done in purchasing as you go with a mic and pre-amp, unless you don't have a mixer. Another way to look at it is that your mixer has a pre amp on each channel. A good pre-amp unit to replace or augment the pre-amps in your mixer will sound better yet.

Mar 15, 2003 10:44 am Walt has hit it on the head. The tube mic has its own Pre-amp so to speak, This will give the mic a good sound on its own, even with the use of the boasrd pre. But if you add a higher quality pre, this again will give an even better quality to the sound, but it is not a necesity.
