Bye Bye Studio

So I moved to austin and have been getting set up here over the last couple of months, leaving most of my studio in houston due to a lack of place to store it in austin at present. I found out a couple of days ago that since no one was living in my house and it had taken some damage due to the hurricane, it seemed like a good target for looters... which it was. So, they got my grandmothers jewelry and china, the tv and some furniture, and my entire studio minus a couple mics and an amp. But, the recording rig, all the instruments (some o which were friends), speakers, tapes, cds, everything gone. They even went so far as to spray paint "south side" on my wall over some paintings I had done, and sliced the shower curtain with a knife. So, I have a single acustic guitar to my name now.

Yep, loosing gear or that stuff by theft always sucks. I hope they can track some of it down.

You'll recoup though and get it together once again.

I'm sorry to hear about that Loki. I really hope you have some luck getting some of it back. There's always hope.

Crappy things all around though. My boss just had her truck stolen a week ago, and whats more, they set it on fire afterwards. Burnt it to the ground. She lost everything that was in it, and insurance won't even cover it all. There were about $70k worth of tools. insurance only gave her back about $40k for everything. :(

I feel for ya loki, and I sincerely hope you pull through this. I think it's safe to say we're all here for ya. Though most of it's off KVR I can burn a DVD of all my VSTs and mail it if you want. Save some time hunting and downloading things at least.

My condolences. They got a couple of grand of my yard tools last year. At least they didn't paint their gang symbols in the process. Unless you can afford to live in an ultra rich gated community you can expect it. I've caught them lurking around in my back yard on many an occasion, scoping out what I had.

yeah its upsetting but aside from the police and insurance reports what can I do ya know? It's ironic that once i get out of my writers block I can't record heh.

Cynic - Well if we're that close to each other we should at least hang out and see a band, although I do appreciate the offer and may take you up on it here shortly. I don't drive, but busses are an option.

At Deon and J-bot - Yeah man, a copy of cubase le would be nice, as well as a cd packed with vst's and vsti's and stuf (even i it's all ganked form KVR... that site owns) and once I get a couple extra bucks in I can get a decent sound card again and at least get some work going on.

Well, if there's any ONE good that can come of this... at least you get to feed your gear junkie again . : )

I know, it's not much for condolences, but somewhat true, eh ?

You could think of this as a reason to make your purchases a bit more focused... as you have the information that you didn't have before to make the purchases you would've if you known what you do now. I think we all know what that's about on one level or another . I know there are alot of ground that I've covered twice in different ways. I also feel that you'll deffinately bounce back from this stronger, and wiser .

No prob Loki. I'll try to get a DVD burned sometime this week. Just lemme know where to send it. I might be able to archive and compress it enough to fit on a CD, but it's probably better to just use a DVD since it's about 815MB total. Probably a little more since there's a couple folders scattered around.

I don't think any of them had installers, just unzipped the dll files with their folders, and had fruity scan for them, then good to go. Though I did have to put a couple of them in the FL Studio plug-ins folder directly.

Should be quite a bit of usable stuff. And you'll get a nifty lightscribed image cover as well :D

This saddens me deeply, losing your studio gear is horrible.

Suprisingly, my house was robbed a couple years back. They broke in through the window in my studio room, walked right past all my gear and proceeded to steal my laptops, xbox 360 and my big screen TV. They must have really not known how much the gear was worth.

I know not everyone can do this. But after loosing a rather large and costly sample library, many original creations of my own. And pretty much all were not replaceable. And the pity is it was a friend of a client at the time who simply left the back slider unlocked down here. He left the state in a big hurry and was never found with said libraries.

Anyway, I opted to have ADT put in a good security system and have not regretted it at all. The savings on my insurance alone was almost worth it. But the piece of mind I get now is the biggest value.

Hey Loki.

A friend of mine just returned the Tascam US122 that he borrowed from me.

I don't have a use for it any more since I have the Sound Device USBPre.

If you still need a preamp, you are more then welcome to it.

It's a real problem. I have elected as per Noize to bring in ADT. Having said that, it still depends on the nature of the intruder. Some will destroy it if they can't haul it out. The Alarm system does limit the amount of time they have in the house, but as we all know there still is a pretty good amount of time before the police arrive. As far as insurance goes, it's a real gamble if in the long run it is good to turn things in. Rates will increase with claims. Here in the ghetto it's a gamble to even report the insidence to the police. Very rarely is anything ever recovered and our insurance is constantly going up because our crime rate is going up. The one thing about the ADT system I do like is the instant on option. We set it before bed every night. Just enough time to pop out of bed and get the safety off the nine.

Did you want the Tascam?

Just to let you know, it's the first generation. Not the second. So, it's not the L.

as far as security systems go I've been considering getting a second cell phone to hide inside something... or mock up a case for it... leave it plugged in until it gets jacked and then the police can track it's GPS position.
