I am using Vegas with the computer mentioned on my profile. But some songs with many tracks and many many plugins are having problem in playback.
Should a memory upgrade solve this problem?

If you haven't already, I would check background tasks first and illiminate them as best possible. That's a free fix. I like free! Memory is the next least expensive. Oh yea, another possible free fix, again if you haven't already, defrag the HD.

You have a Pentium 4 1.6Ghz? I am gonna go out on a limb and say that it's pre-Northwood core - did you buy it over 8 months ago?
I used to have a P4 1.6Ghz myself and I discovered a rather nasty problem with them after encountering the exact same problem that you have - there is a "feature" of the Pre-Nothwood core which basically means it cant controll it's CPU usuage very well - this means that if you use lots of CPU intensive plugins (such as Wave's Reverbs, etc) then the CPU usage will shoot up past 100% causing everything to "stutter".
The bad news is that there is no real solution to this - Intel say it is not their problem, so the only advice I can give to you is lay off the Reberbs and RComps, or do what I did, and get a new P4 which has a Northwood core (I now have a 2.4Ghz and have no problems with it).
Sorry for the bad news, but then I may be wrong, so don't fret too much :)
