Sonar 7 pops and clicks

Posted on

I am using Sonar 7 PE, Vista (Crappy,I know), Focusrite Saffire LE (Firewire). I am getting random pops and click during Recording and Playback.

I have gone through all Audio settings and adjusted buffer sizes in every direction. I have tried ASIO, WDM, MME, as well optimized Vista and have had no luck. The pops and clicks happen with the interface AND stock soundcard.

Any suggestion?

I had a very similar situation with my setup . It turned out that my hard drive was a bit too full for Sonars liking . Make sure you have plenty of free room in your file-saving drive .

Well if you have a 500g hard drive, then that would be pretty darn full... it's relative .

Ok, that should be fine . What resolution are you recording at, and how many tracks at once ?

Yep, if you can list the specs of your PC, SPU speed and amount of RAM that will help a great deal.

Laptop: Dell Inspiron 1525, Intel Pentium Dual Core T3200 (2.0GHz 667Mhz, 1M L2 Cache), Currently running Vista Home Premium, 2GB DDR2 Ram, 160G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive, Integrated High Definition Audio 2.0, Focusrite Saffire LE Firewire interface, Cakewalk Sonar 7, WaveLab 5, Fruity Loops 8.

Sorry guys my brain is fried from troubleshooting 5 days straight.

heh Nice av, njones .

Looking at the specs I can see one trouble spot for sure... a 5400RPM hard drive . That's prolly where you're bottle-necking . I'm not really sure what the best cure for this would be... wither an external HD, or replacing the internal with something faster .

Also, you'll want to disable your onboard soundcard .

OK, I have to ask this right off. Are you monitoring through the onboard sound card or are you bypassing that altogether?

You may actually want to dissable that driver for now if you are going to b e using the Focusrite as that can sometimes cause some issues.

Also the HD can be a problem as Hue stated. And external drive for audio only will help with that.

You also need to make sure that you have no other programs running at all since both the Focusrite and Sonar need a lot of power to run properly.

Quick update: I downgraded to XP and my meters now work with both stock sound card and interface. I also took your guy's advice and disabled the on board sound card while recording and that solved the jitter problems. Thank you guys for your help. I really appreciate it! Everything is running nice and smooth and I 'm finally mobile!
