HELP! my active monitors are fuzzy!

i have a set of numark m80 actives. i have no trouble with them plugged into a mixer, but as soon as i connect my laptop through a line in on the mixer they become all fuzzy and crackly.. i am using the only line out jack on the laptop which is the headphones.

Well, the laptop line out maybe part of the problem. I wouldn't really recommend doing what your attempting with a single built in laptop audio card, but thats just me and my personal preference I guess.

Do your monitors have a ground switch at all on them? This also may help if they do... switch to see if it does anything for them. If not, I would try to run the laptop on the power supply, then the battery to see if there is any changes there.

Other then that, I would suggest getting some sort of external usb/firewire audio interface and using that as your audio output. I have a Presonus 1394 firewire and it has monitor outputs and 4 inputs on it. Small, portable, and can send a better signal to the monitors.

That would be my first place to look for the unwanted signal.
