but americans don't have accents, only wacky brits do. :-)

what kind of accent, northern accent like the movie "Fargo", or southern/redneck kinda accent, east coast attitude accent (such as demonstrated in the movie "My Cousin Vinnie")?

As far as Herb is concerned, no, not joking, he does voiceovers for a living (or, money anyway)...I am sure lots of folks would be willing to help for free though, just hold out for a bit...I would, but my voice sucks.

This is the right forum... but all posts get fed into a 'community forum' of the last 50 or so posts... so posting in each forum spams that one... and thats the one where most people go to answer current questons...

I believe the term for that voice is called "puking" ie... 'The Price is Right' voice... lots of local radio DJ's do it... annoying as hell... :)

Heck I'll do it, I did a pretty good boxing announcer for a project awhile back. Send me the script\phrases and I can just try a few different stylings.

Heyyyyyy!!!!!!!

Actually, Americans do have accents. There are four:

1. New England
2. Southern
3. Mid-Atlantic - Trying to do an "English Accent" a la Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins
4. Everybody Else

The Fargo thing is just Canadian, really.

Hehehehehehehe....

I know, I know...a special hell....

I read somewhere once that they have some voice meter to study accents and vocal patterns and that the midwest USA has the least "accent" of anywhere...whatever that meant...

I once read a book on American history where they were saying that the '49ers (not the dreadful NFL version) would have talked in a manner closer to Yosemite Sam than anything else. I probably would not be able to keep a straight face.

Eye ma War Ning Yu!

I don't know about the only four accents in America. Because you can tell a person from Brooklyn, as opposed from New England.

And a person from Georgia, as from Texas.

I don't know, I think there is a lot more then 4.

Nice Rob.

I kinda agree with what you are saying as well. There are several different versions of a MN accent as well. Northern MN has a pretty funky Scandinavian type accent. Sometimes it sounds very Canadian as dB stated earlier.

Southern MN has a much plainer tone to it.

Yeah, Michigan alone probably had more than four...

paraphrased:

Yooper
Detroit
Regular Michigander (huh...that actually passes spellcheck in firefox)
'Thumb' which usually has crazy phrases that nobody understands "Who you from back home." aka "Whats your maiden name?" etc.

...and there's the unending battle between 'creek' and 'crick'...

Of course...only god knows how the folks on North Manitou talk... if they talk...

After spending time in the military it was a hobby to try and guess peoples home states from their accent and SSN... (first three digits get higher as you go west)

Pah, y'all sound alike....

Nah, I'm sticking with four. All those New Englanders are pretty unintelligible and just don't speak properly.

North Dakota/Minnesota etc.=Canadian, anyways

Canadian=Scottish, anyways

Scottish=unintelligible

QED

Did I miss anyone? I am an equal opportunity offender.
Anyone not offended can write to someone else and complain....

Bwahahahaha!!!!

JK: I'm not that shallow and ethnocentric, I just like rattling cages.

Anyway, my wife's an American. If I could understand her (Massachussetts), I'd ask her what she thought...

Remember the TV commercials where the help lines had a separate number for Nebraska? It was because many corporations had their phone centers stationed in Nebraska. The reason was that the Midwestern "accent" is the most intelligible.

Nowadays, well...

TC, you're killing me over here. I was having a similar conversation from my friend from Atlanta a couple weeks ago. He said the bay area has a very distinct accent, though it's tough to catch sometimes because so many people move here from everywhere else. But amongst people who grew up here, he said it's distinct if subtle. He said it's in the Rs and how we pronounce our Rs hard. EveR vs. Eva or Evah.

I once tried having a conversation with this irish cat at a local bar. I literally couldn't understand what the hell he was talking about. Sounded like he was grumbling out of his throat similar to tazmanian devil.

Alaskan accent? I have no idea if we have one, I would assume so.

Also, I am setting my equipment back up tonight for personal use, I will record this unless herb already filled your needs with his perfect voiceover voice *pfftt*.

BH, you know I would never diss the Canadian being. I'm half French Canadian anyway, so that might be a bad thing.
