hell, your lucky a Crystal chip worked in any OS... :-)

Just kidding, but seriously, it's not even a sound card then is it? It's is just the chip imbedded on your motherboard, right? If so, go to the website of you mobo maker and look for new drivers for XP.

i think its a soundcard...the nearest driver i could find for it was for windows 2000 - not xp

any ideas?

i tried troubleshooting it and stoopid windows keeps telling me its working ok!

oh, so it is, a 4-channel if I am looking at the right thing.

yup, Windows 2000 is the most current I can find as well...bummer...the best idea I can come up with is to buy a new sound card...sorry, but it's true.

In my mind uninstalling XP would be a bigger pain in the arse.

XP has been more stable and reliable for me than any other OS I have used, I wouldn't recommend changing back myself, but that is your call.

Just out of curiousity, Does your card use the Windows Volume control for the line in or does it have it's own app?

Thanks for the welcome dB!

I check in from time to time. I add something if I think it is worthwhile. Usually you and Noize take care of it. I still pick up a lot of good pointers here. I don't always login unless I have something to say. Nice place you have here.

Blessings, Terry

Hey terri, nice to see you here. Hey flame, you might try lookin in the windows volume control panel as still4given said. I know it may have turned off the record drivers. So you will need to open the volume control, and go to record options and make sure that line in is selected as a source. My SB did taht to me a while back when I went form 98 to Me.

Well then flame, I hate to say this, but save a few bucks up and go get a SB Live. It will still be cheap, but far better then using the onboard chip.

DOWNDATE DOWNDATE

It now just stops playing out sound and stops recording when im recording tracks...but theres no other programmes running at the same time, theres not loads of tracks or effects running...its like the system usage is really high

can i record at a lower sample rate and still have high enough quality to be cd standard or is that gonna screw me up ?

XP blows btw...its a cool system but it screwed up cubase and nothing else!

XP rocks BTW...for me at least.

CD audio is 16bit stereo, so if you record at that or higher it will end up being CD quality...lower than that will suffer loss.

the sample rate in cubase is in KHZ...its at 48000 or something at the minute....whats that in cd terms...can i go lower and not lose quality?

XP'll rock for me when i get my machine working with it properly...until then IMHO it sucks!

48Khz is a bump up from CD quality. It gives you a maximum frequency responce of 24KHz, which is slightly above most people's hearing range (like a dog whistle), and like dB said, it will ultimately get dithered (is that the word?) down to 44.1Khz for burning to CD, so you might as well record at 44.1Khz.

::shrugs:: unless you're one of those hardcore stubborn audiophiles who insists on using nothing but 24b 96KHz for everything ;O) -j
