I've heard ruby tube does nice too, I think that's the name.

Magneto has been brought up many times, for a 'pay' one.

If you've got a hundred bucks you can part with the PSP VIntage Warmer is the katz azz for doing what you need to do. I've tried a few free ones as well but they don't have all the grunt of the pay for ones. But there are several free ones on KVR that do work fantastic with a few limitations in control, but that is not a huge deal breaker really in the end as your just looking for that warmed up sound.

go for a general "tape compression" type plugin, i really don't have a go-to "warmer", but if PHATneSS is what you're craving, it's all about the compression (and eq) try as many compressors as you can...now if "warm" is what you're lookn' for i'd go to a very light overdrive plug.

oh, not to be a smart-ash, but if you want to sound analog, you're gonna hafta go analog...no shame with digital, i'm quite content with it.

I second the Voxengo Tube Amp. I've used it in comparison to my Neumann tube mic and though it can't emulate the tube ambiance, it does warm the signal on close par.

Gluten, I was a skeptic in the very biginning of digital that I might never have the old school analog sound using it. It only took me about 6 months all those years ago to figure out that using certain pluggin's along with a combination of hardware while recording would get me close to my old sound. But as the years went by and the DSP became better I found pluggin's that worked just fine. Now I can replicate the sounds I used to get with old analog gear in the digital realm without batting an eye.

It is just a matter of trying different things until you find what works for you.
