Welcome...

As Sticadokid mentioned, you'll need a DAW program. Your 0404 probably came with the lite version of one or two good commercial apps. You didn't say which.... Usually these LITE versions will have a few features turned off, and to turn them on you need to upgrade.
Alternates are everywhere. From the free (Kristal) to the near-free shareware (n-Tracks) on up to wherever you want to be.....

As for hooking up, you can go straight from your pedal into the soundcard (output on pedal to "in" on the breakout cords on the sound card). Some here - myself included - will use a small mixer. This acts not only as a patchbay (saves pulling cords and stuff around behind your PC on your soundcard), acts as a preamp, provides phantom power when needed and give you a little more flexibility. Soem people actually do some EQ and mixing on them....
I go from my RP250 to my mixer then into my soundcard. I never unplug anything from my soundcard, and do all the patching at the mixer - which is built to take a bit more punishment. Something to consider.
