I was wondering how to get those "bass drops" in on my recordings. i dont exactly know what theyre called (ive heard 20 million different names for them)... but if u listen to "Empty Hearts" by As I Lay Dying, 23 and 27 seconds into the song, ull hear this massive booming bass. u can only hear it when ur listening to the song with subs.

if u like to hear it alot, listen to "Entombment of a Machine" by Job For a Cowboy.

i know how to make a crazy loud bass noise, but i want to do it so u cant hear it in normal speakers... these guys have it so u can only hear it when ur listening to their music with subs.

Get a subharmonic synthesiser(DOD used to make a nice rackmount one)... then run your material through it, and mix it in 'something.1'... and send the processed signal to the .1 .

There may be a plugin for it, but I don't know .

It sounds as if they are doing drum replacement on just certain hits, probably using an 808 or similar synth tone. Basically, if the hit is low enough (60hz or lower would be my guess) standard speakers would not pick it up to well but subs would scream. A possibility.

I bet you could use a tone genetor and just do a very low frequency like 50Hz or maybe up to 60Hz...

worth a try maybe?

I was going to suggest that too. I'm thinking you want an even lower frequency, maybe even in the realm of 20 to 30 Hz. Generate the tone and try some attack and/or decay effects, or play around with some other processing.

I only ask one thing: keep that track down when you drive by my house or pull up next to me at an intersection, please.

Waves has (or had anyway) a plugin called "MaxxBass" that would make those big undertones like that, mostly used for movie soundtracks and stuff...

Yep, on my electronic stuff I always used MaxxBass and it is killer. I've used it on other stuff as well. I t can easily be over done so be careful with it.

dude, u have to try this sometime! it sounds freakin sick... whenever u record a band and they go into a heavy part of the song with a guitar slide, add that effect. it made an AWESOME rumble when i did it, and it made it flow so damn well into the next riff

Hehe, I did it on a track for a more 80's thrash metal band as a joke, they hated it :)
